Title: Spotting a drunk driver Post by: mitchigan on February 12, 2010, 01:40:02 AM I'm just wondering what do you guys do if you spot an impaired driver??? I just got back from picking up some meds for my kid whos sick and this driver at a stop light throws a bottle out his/her SUV. Then he/she overturns and goes up on the street curb. This was after midnight, and there's no one on the roads. Do you guys call the po-po in this case??? I obviously didn't but I feel like I should have.
Title: Re: Spotting a drunk driver Post by: Milan on February 12, 2010, 01:57:36 AM While I have not encountered anyone on the road that I believed was impaired, I would definitely not hesitate to call the police. It's too often that we read about a drunk driver plowing through a stop sign to write off an entire family, only to walk away from the crash, and back on the road in no time. Anyone who is inconsiderate enough to endanger others on the road does not belong behind a vehicle.
Title: Re: Spotting a drunk driver Post by: Mike on February 12, 2010, 07:50:20 AM In that case I would have called. I have called on people a couple times. I generally try to judge it if they are all over the road and hitting curbs and shit I would call in a second.
Title: Re: Spotting a drunk driver Post by: timot_one on February 12, 2010, 09:22:51 AM When there is someone that is driving dangerously, I inform the police. Whether they appear to be drunk (driving all over the road), driving recklessly (motorcycles doing wheelies at 100 mph on the freeway), or overly aggressive, I call the police to have them get that person off the road before they cause an accident. As much as I may feel like an asshole calling the cops on someone, I would feel even worse if that driver harmed or killed someone else.
Title: Re: Spotting a drunk driver Post by: NWINNIE34 on February 12, 2010, 09:44:41 AM definitely call with the license plate number... it cant hurt the situation one bit
that person 5 min later could have also drove down the road and hit a van with 5 people in it..... Title: Re: Spotting a drunk driver Post by: v6sicksspeed on February 12, 2010, 09:54:01 AM i called the cops on someone once from the highway. it was late at night and he was all over the place and going 10 under the limit, then 20 over the limit a few seconds later, then back to 10 under. i tailed him for a few minutes just to make sure he wasnt on the phone or just not paying attention or something but his erratic driving was consistent which tells me only one thing. i called with the highway milemarker and a description of his car but left the scene after that. kinda felt like a dbag because im sure the guy got a DUI but in the same sense someone (even if it was him/her) could have been killed
Title: Re: Spotting a drunk driver Post by: Mike on February 12, 2010, 10:36:46 AM Not that I recommend doing this but, there is a simple way to assess if a drive is intoxicated. From a safe distance swerve back and forth slowly a couple of time 90% of the time and impaired driver will follow your headlights. I learned this from a buddy that is a trooper it's one of the techniques they employ.

Usually I just get away from them asap Title: Re: Spotting a drunk driver Post by: CrackerTeg on February 13, 2010, 07:32:09 PM I've called on assholes before. Hell, I even tailed a big rig that pushed me into opposing traffic when I lived in the keys (no one was coming thankfully). Gave a description, mile marker, tag, description of my car and speed travelling since i was pacing the fucktard. With what you saw Mitch, I wouldn't have hesitated to make the call.
