Any of you guys have a second ride? I'm thinking of buying a beater, maybe by years end, just to tinker on and drive maybe once or twice a week kind of thing. Maybe spend $2-3k on it. Defintly looking for something in running condition where I'd only have to throw on a set of tires and maybe a basic tune-up. I'm leaning towards a Mk I or II GTI or a 1950-70s vw bug. The idea with the bug is to slam it and then just ride like that for awhile. GTI would be gutted and turned into a track car or fixed up to OEM quality, depending on the quality of the car. Defintly don't want to spend alot, hence the term 'beater'. If you guys have any other ideas on this topic I'm all ears.

Isn't this why you bought a CX7? :) I've been looking for a Mustang to play around with but, the price has to be right, and right now its not very easy to find what i'm looking for in fair condition. The biggest thing to evaluate is if you still want to mod the Accord. Having two modded vehicles is a pain in the ass take it from me. I've been there.

Well, I bought the CX7 because it was cheap and safe for the wife. I've had a motorcycle itch for awhile but when it comes down to it, insurance is too high and wifey probably wont like me too much if I get one. So whats wrong with throwing down a few grand on a beater and slowly fixing it up? I won't be modding the Accord anymore either and will be paid off in a few weeks. In my eyes, with over 140k on it, no reason for me to mod it anymore. Albeit, I am going to install an intake, but thats only to see if I can get better mpgs, 25mpg is killing me.

If you get something to turn into a track car, please don't do a track build without having any track experience / taken that vehicle to the track.

If you're getting a beater it should be something like a winter car. Just something to drive when the Honda is hibernating.  

I'm actually thinking about picking up a Mazda 626 for $600 because the Accord may be in Virgina getting some things done.

^rich, I've got a 97 and a 98 mazda 626.. both are beaters.. the 98's engine blew on me back in 04, new swapped in early 05, and then blew again 6 months later.. not too happy with the v6's for that car.. but the 97 626 is a 4 cylinder MT, it's good on gas...

I was going to get a DB4/DC2, but have no place to put it if I don't put it on the road.  I miss my old 16v MkII GTi, but it was a fucking pain in the ass to work on.  I'm trying to get Cham's R32 as a 2nd car.

yea they are.  The replacement motor we had to order had Ford stamps alllll over it.  it's the same engine that was in the Probe GT (2.5L v6).  piece of shit engine..

I had a buddy that had one of those probes...it was quick, but it was always broken!

Electromagnetic Pulse not sure why you would build a vehicle immune to this but to each his own.

Well I was thinking on the lines of "getting out of dodge" if "the shit hits the fan" such as a solar flare large enough to cause EMP...or WMD's capable of it.  But that is very situation specific, and there are much higher risks of other threats before wither of those.  But a BOV is basically a vehicle to get you from point A to point B.  It should be reliable, stockable, and large enough to carry your family and your supplies to get you to "higher grounds" (in case of tsunami)

I have been watching too much history and discovery channels I think...2012, Nostradamus, Mayan's etc...

Thanks, yeah it was rough but this was def his prized possession so I snagged it without hesitation. The condition, miles and the fact that I no longer have a car payment is just a plus. Only issue it's given me so far is that the water pump failed 2 weekends ago. I knew it was coming so I had planned on getting it done but it went earlier than expected.

Yeah it's super comfortable and loaded with everything except Nav. Full leather, dual power seats, heated seats, Infinity sound system, moon roof, etc. Only thing I've done is tint the windows and add a aftermarket cd player which I bought from Bill. I might throw an intake on and entertaining dual exhaust since the later models came with it. Everybody loves the rag top though!

Awesome. She loves the blue tooth. Only thing she mentioned early on is the fact that she no longer has the cd changer that was in it. But I reminded her the she plays the shit out of one cd all the time so it didnt matter so that became a quick moot issue. LOL! Next I'll probably add satellite radio to it. Gotta look into antenna options though since it has a cloth top.

My car is my beater.  The Ody is much more luxurious.  I had a old '74 Cutlass with a Rocket 350 engine in it in College.  Ivory white interior with swivel front seats.  Body looked like shit but the engine was built (rocket 350 has 4 bolt mains).  That thing would haul the mail.  Sadly I had to grow up...

my 200 dollar project beater 89 240sx.. I have a dual cam ka24de ready to go in the car but no cherry picker... I really need another ecu and wiring harness for the motor/auto trans... just to get by for now... I realized what a mistake I made buying the truck and it is to the point where after my billse are paid and I buy my $120 walmart gift card for diesel for 2 weeks, I have like 10 bucks left out of my paycheck... I live check to check. FML

Its pretty boring to drive, and I don't like it in general...

I love the ES350, especially on the road. We have the ultra luxury with the glass roof and it is great. Other cars in my family are Lexus RX300, RX350, LS460, ES350, and a Camry SE. I only have pictures of the LS, RX350, and ES. You guys understand my Lexus fanboyness now? Although after yesterdays visit to the infiniti dealer, things may be changing.

KBB trade-in value is $15k for it.  So chances are, at auction price, the dealer probably bought it for like $11k.

Its our project car. Me and my friend got it for 300 bucks. So we split the cost, but we are all broke ass hell. lol The plan was to swap a diesel turbo into there from a benz since those can be found pretty easy at the junk yard. The car weights less then 2000lbs right now.
