Yes, as I indicated in the end of 09, we would have some fun contests starting this calendar year. To get started, we are going to be giving away two of the really awesome Wax On, Wax Off Detailer Domain T-Shirts.

I realize that it is still cold in most of the US right now. Heck they are even predicting snow flurries in Florida tomorrow. After last month's lack of involvement with the detailing contest, I figured we would make this month a bit easier.

So here we go. The contest rules are simple. Teach us something new. It does not matter what it is that you teach, just post in this thread something that will teach someone something new and at the end of the month, we will post a poll for what the community thinks is the top two coolest new things they learned from this thread.

It does not matter what you educate us on, it can be cars, life, romance, or anything else you like. What better way to start of 2010, but to help your fellow community member out with some knowledge.

I will give you guys something simple. Do you know the reason that manhole and sewer covers are always round? The reason being, A circle is the only shape that can not go into itself. I do alot of environmental drilling for soil, groundwater, and drinking water sampling and monitoring...figured i would throw this on you...

The deepest hole drilled into the Earth is known as the Kola Superdeep Borehole and its located on the Kola Peninsula in Russia.
The drilling started in 1970 and the deepest bore was completed in 1989. After 19 years of drilling the bore extended 40,226 feet or 7.62 miles below the grounds surface.
The bore had penetrated through 1/3rd of the estimated 22 mile thick Baltic crust....interesting shit right ?
At the bottom of the hole they took readings of the temp which reached 356 degrees F

Hands down this is the deepest hole in the world and the furthest humans have come to reaching the center of the earth....

this is something that everybody should have a basic understanding of, and hopefully will never have to use but as we all know life is unpredictable.  as science continues to move forward the best practices of CPR evolve over the years so it is important to keep up to date.

2009 CPR guidelines

ADULTS: when performing CPR, both hands should be placed on the center of the chest. You should compress the chest 1 1/2 to 2 inches. Current guidelines call for 100 chest compressions per minute. When doing rescue breaths, you should breathe into the victim for about one second, until the chest clearly rises. The current ratio is 30 compressions to 2 breaths.

CHILDREN: Both hands should be placed on the center of the chest, one hand if you are a large person giving CPR to a small child. Compress the chest 1-1 1/2 inches. Like adults, when performing rescue breaths, breathe until the chest clearly rises. The ratio of compressions to breaths is 30 compressions to 2 breaths with one rescuer, and 15 compressions to 2 breaths when there are 2 rescuers. Aim for about 100 compressions a minute.

INFANTS: Place two or three fingers on the center of the chest, just below the nipple line. Compress the chest about a 1/2 -1 inch. When performing rescue breaths, breath until the chest clearly rises. Remember, infants will require much smaller breaths than adults. The ratio of compressions to breaths is 30 to 2 with one rescuer, and 15 to 2 with two rescuers. Aim for 100 compressions a minute.

if you have ever leaked oil on your garage floor/ driveway /  or street and it has started to make a rainbow colored sheen on the pavement..... spray simple green on it and it will disappear

(can be bought where any other cleaning products are found)
