Title: Yet again, new toy Post by: exelr8 on December 30, 2009, 02:26:14 AM I was helping a friend move last week and his girlfriends friend offered me a deal on this thing that i couldnt pass up... its a 89 240sx with 194k miles on her with a body that is in great shape to be 20 years old. All she needs is a head gasket a tune up a battery and a windshield. Here's the pics... More to come as it progresses. I play to get it running and drive it as a dd since i am paying 240 bucks a month for diesel... and maybe down the road either sell it to buy a bike or powersports toy or do a sr or ls1 swap

Title: Re: Yet again, new toy Post by: slipkord on December 30, 2009, 08:23:24 AM That $200 could have went for more diesel....nice buy dude!
Title: Re: Yet again, new toy Post by: CrackerTeg on December 30, 2009, 09:07:12 AM Nice pick up dude. I thought the single cams were ka24e's not de. The de's didn't come out until 91 if my memory serves me. I say screw the sr swap. To played. Definitely do the ls swap or go a little crazy and do an rb swap. That'd be sick.
Title: Re: Yet again, new toy Post by: alpha on December 30, 2009, 11:39:21 AM Nice buy!
Title: Re: Yet again, new toy Post by: JohnnyG123 on December 30, 2009, 05:49:14 PM Z is correct, the engine is a KA24E, i used to have a 89 hatchback till i slid into a guardrail. nice find!
and i vote for a 2jz swap Title: Re: Yet again, new toy Post by: exelr8 on December 30, 2009, 07:35:05 PM I stand corrected... I was told it was a de... wither way, not bad haha thanks guys
Title: Re: Yet again, new toy Post by: timot_one on December 30, 2009, 08:41:52 PM Nice pick up man. The body looks clean.
Title: Re: Yet again, new toy Post by: exelr8 on December 30, 2009, 08:51:03 PM Thanks Tim, You doin ok? Aint heard from you in a while
Title: Re: Yet again, new toy Post by: timot_one on December 30, 2009, 09:11:16 PM Huh? What are you talking about? You know I was busy a while back right? Have you seen this thread (http://elitecm.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2318) yet?
Title: Re: Yet again, new toy Post by: Mike on December 30, 2009, 09:26:55 PM Go with the SR20 it's common but, that also means that you should be able to do it fairly cheap, and with less headaches.
Title: Re: Yet again, new toy Post by: exelr8 on December 31, 2009, 12:01:13 AM I have been rather busy myself I joined a Volunteer Fire Dept and am considering a career change into the emergency medical field... I had not seen that thread yet, that is freaking awesome! How much power is it putting down?
The SR swap is very tempting seeing as how you can pick up a sr with a trans for about a grand off importatlanta.com... Title: Re: Yet again, new toy Post by: timot_one on December 31, 2009, 12:06:08 AM I haven't dyno'd it yet. I'm guessing I should be making around 300-325 whp right now. I'm going to dyno it before I install the aftercooler and water/meth kit.
Title: Re: Yet again, new toy Post by: exelr8 on December 31, 2009, 01:04:00 AM Sweet! I would have been paying you a visit if I had traveled with a guy from work who went to boston for new years... but i didnt have enough time saved up or the funds... that is crazy... I have heard of intercoolers, but never an aftercooler?
How much boost? Title: Re: Yet again, new toy Post by: timot_one on December 31, 2009, 07:58:09 AM Intercooler = Aftercooler I'm making about 8-9 PSI at 7600 RPM. It's too bad you couldn't make it up here.
Title: Re: Yet again, new toy Post by: exelr8 on December 31, 2009, 06:47:25 PM MAkes sense... thanks for clarification. 8 pounds is not too bad. on the 240 with the new plan I will probably be pushing about 13-15 psi if not more.
Title: Re: Yet again, new toy Post by: timot_one on December 31, 2009, 11:24:42 PM Sounds like fun to me. I'd keep it instead of selling it. I'm hoping to get my project car soon.
Title: Re: Yet again, new toy Post by: exelr8 on January 01, 2010, 05:38:02 PM I think it will stay around a while... and be a DD for a while. I have realized the somewhat rarity of it being a coupe instead of a hatch. Soon, I will have a dual cam ka and 5 speed swap. I have been reading alot about building a KA-t and it looks somewhat promising.
Title: Re: Yet again, new toy Post by: Knocturnal84 on January 02, 2010, 04:10:21 AM yeah the dual cam KA-T is a real monster now. I vote you keep it and do that. The aftermarket scene for that car is endless so you wont have issues finding parts
Title: Re: Yet again, new toy Post by: exelr8 on January 02, 2010, 12:55:53 PM I finally started working on it last night, the spark plugs has some orange silicone looking gunk on the electrode of them along with some oil... i have a feeling this ka24e needs a lot more than a just a head gasket haha....
