I'm going to prep mine for this winter too. I'm going to wash it, bought Meguiers clay kit, and am debating on what wax or sealant to go with. I'm a noob and something that is safe enough for me to use is recommended. Let me know! Thanks! Thanks! good and inexpensive sealant is Collonite 845 sealing wax, you can apply couple coats of that and you good. if you want wax, try their 915 wax, haven't tried it but mine is coming today so i should have it Friday. i heard a lot of good things about it. plus they are very durable. should last about 4-6 month so its good for winter http://www.collinite.com/ (http://www.collinite.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) beading after 3 coats for collonite (845,476 and 915) (http://i35.tinypic.com/j5ck6f.jpg) (http://i34.tinypic.com/1498npe.jpg) another good wax i would recommend is Meguiars mirror glaze #16, i think its discontinued but im sure you can find it on weekends. i put it on and tried to clean it off yesterday with dish detergent and it didn't come off, either its very durable or my detergent is not strong enough here is beading from it, (http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t55/sy272004/Car%20Details/DSCN6636.jpg) Title: Re: Detailed my car again. getting ready for winter Post by: CYANiDE on November 18, 2009, 01:35:34 PM So 3 coats of 845 would be good for the winter?
No one near me sells this stuff. GRRR! Off to look for Meguiar's or this stuff in the next week or two. Want to get this done next weekend. EDIT: Read that #16 is when the paint is perfectly repaired for wax and must be applied lightly in order to make it come off LOL. Title: Re: Detailed my car again. getting ready for winter Post by: InFuMoUs on November 18, 2009, 04:25:16 PM Very impressive work there Misha. Looks like ya skills are improving every time. Did you use a PC or a Rotary Buffer?
Title: Re: Detailed my car again. getting ready for winter Post by: CYANiDE on November 18, 2009, 09:32:04 PM Bought some 845 stuff off eBay since there are no places near me that sell the stuff. What would be the best way to apply this stuff?
Title: Re: Detailed my car again. getting ready for winter Post by: AV6NHBP6SPD on November 18, 2009, 09:55:30 PM ^^just regular applicator pad for wax.do section at a time. its pretty easy to apply and remove, was very easy with ultra plus microfiber towel. but after that i would wash the car again to remove leftovers. gona do it friday and aply 476, then 915 on weekend
Steve, im using PC right now but gona be switching to rotary couse of amount of work im starting to do, i need something that will cut/correct paint faster 3 coats should be good. do it 24 hours apart (it has to have time to cure and let all gases or solvents out) then i would put some kinda wax on for more shine and protection. Title: Re: Detailed my car again. getting ready for winter Post by: CYANiDE on November 19, 2009, 11:16:00 AM Thanks for the tips.
So after 1 coat, wash and redo 24 hrs later. Would the Meguiers #16 be good to use afterward? Would the Meguiers #16 be good to use afterward? yeah #16 is good. i have it, used and seems to be easy application and removal, we gona see about durability still but ppl say about 2 month or so. just wait 24 between each layer. Title: Re: Detailed my car again. getting ready for winter Post by: Asim on November 20, 2009, 01:31:18 PM should I get my car waxed before winter?
i haven't washed or waxed it since July Title: Re: Detailed my car again. getting ready for winter Post by: AV6NHBP6SPD on November 21, 2009, 08:58:49 AM guys, my friend told me that harbor freight tools had collonite 845 on clerance for like $8-9
Asim, waxing will help but most waxes will not last through the winter, id recommend getting 845, sealing paint first and then put coat of wax on it after 24 hours Title: Re: Detailed my car again. getting ready for winter Post by: CYANiDE on November 21, 2009, 11:30:11 AM Too late now. I paid $13 for mine =[
So you recommend 3 coats of Collonite 845 and then 3 of Meguiars #16? Just making sure that's not overkill LOL. Cuz that's a week long project almost LOL. I don't have to wash it also everyday? I drive it a lot so I'm trying to figure out how it'd since it'd probably gather some dust in between each coat if I have to wait 24hrs. Title: Re: Detailed my car again. getting ready for winter Post by: AV6NHBP6SPD on November 21, 2009, 03:22:39 PM nahh. 2 coats of 845 and 1 of megz will do just fine. i have 2 on mine now and just gona use one of my waxes, maybe even gona do megs 16

Title: Re: Detailed my car again. getting ready for winter Post by: CYANiDE on November 23, 2009, 10:51:59 AM Sorry to keep bumping your thread LOL.
What's a good microfiber to use for the 845? What about something for #16? Title: Re: Detailed my car again. getting ready for winter Post by: AV6NHBP6SPD on November 23, 2009, 05:59:10 PM any good MF, just not once you get from retail stores. get it as plush as possible. i know turtle wax blue towels seemed nice but i would get http://www.detailersdomain.com/thenewno ... towel.aspx (http://www.detailersdomain.com/thenewnonameubersuperplushtowel.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) love this thing. got 4 of them and 1 huge one that is same as that one.
also got 24 of this things http://www.chemicalguys.com/SUPER_TOWEL ... 506_12.htm (http://www.chemicalguys.com/SUPER_TOWEL_microfiber_towels_car_care_products_p/mic_506_12.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) and use them for to take off polish. but i think those green once are best for 845 or wax Title: Re: Detailed my car again. getting ready for winter Post by: mitchigan on November 25, 2009, 11:09:08 AM Quote from: "AV6NHBP6SPD" (http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t55/sy272004/Car%20Details/My%20accord/IMGP8347.jpg) (http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t55/sy272004/Car%20Details/My%20accord/IMGP8349.jpg) (http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t55/sy272004/Car%20Details/My%20accord/IMGP8351.jpg) What are those cement ramps for? oil changing? Title: Re: Detailed my car again. getting ready for winter Post by: AV6NHBP6SPD on November 25, 2009, 11:39:50 AM yes. there is "hole" about 2' deep by 3' by about 8' between those ramps. makes oil change or other stuff a lot easier. i can sit comfortable and do oil change. have to take pic of that. my dad did it when we put cement on driveway
