Title: Transmission Upgrates for auto Post by: Mike on February 09, 2009, 12:56:33 PM Are there any upgrades that can be made to the automatic transmission that could increase longevity/effectivness? Other than a tranny cooler that one obvious.
Title: Re: Transmission Upgrates for auto Post by: timot_one on February 09, 2009, 03:40:15 PM I recall that Level 10 had some sort of AT upgrade. Not sure though, since I never research any J Series or AT stuff. Thien or Paul might know.
Title: Re: Transmission Upgrates for auto Post by: Mike on February 10, 2009, 08:34:46 AM LOL I'll look at level 10 at least its a starting point.
Title: Re: Transmission Upgrates for auto Post by: Mike on February 11, 2009, 09:53:37 AM I have now looked at the level 10 stuff, and I wish I had an extra 4 grand!
Title: Re: Transmission Upgrates for auto Post by: b_beau_09 on February 14, 2009, 04:12:00 PM just swap the auto to 6spd MT.. i'll have it done by the end of this year!
Title: Re: Transmission Upgrates for auto Post by: Mike on February 14, 2009, 08:01:23 PM I thought of that but, if i'm going to go that route I would just trade it and buy a v6 6 speed.
Title: Re: Transmission Upgrates for auto Post by: Milan on February 15, 2009, 12:16:25 AM I got to thinking today...what's cheaper if my AT ever craps out. Getting a re-built AT or going 6MT?
Title: Re: Transmission Upgrates for auto Post by: JC04accord on February 15, 2009, 01:17:57 AM Quote from: "Milan" I got to thinking today...what's cheaper if my AT ever craps out. Getting a re-built AT or going 6MT? Rebuilt as in holding power? Or just back to normal? If your swapping your easily looking at 5k plus to start with, complication after complication, finding a place that will tackle the job etc. Through Level 10 and IPT trans I believe their built transmissions are around 4k. You can get a used transmission with low miles easily for 500 in our area Milan but going the other two routes its going to cost a lot of money. Title: Re: Transmission Upgrates for auto Post by: b_beau_09 on February 15, 2009, 03:22:48 AM the swap won't cost 5k if you can find your parts cheap enough.. i got my 6spd MT locally for less than 500.. labor is probably going to be bad if you go to a shop.. i'm going through paul, so he's not killing my wallet.

My car's got almost 102K miles now and I hear these trannies aren't the greatest. Plus I'm always thinking about selling the car and getting a V6 6-speed. Putting in a 6MT would bring back a lot of fun. It's an entirely different experience between my car and Gen's 6MT. It's so much more fun to drive! I'm just going by the information provided by the only person to have done this. It isn't cheap to swap by any means. Title: Re: Transmission Upgrates for auto Post by: Mike on February 16, 2009, 07:46:09 AM I've been quoted less than 4k including parts and labor to switch from auto to 6MT

If i'm going to send my car down there i'm probably going to have move done than just the auto to MT swap. Title: Re: Transmission Upgrates for auto Post by: NVA-AV6 on February 21, 2009, 01:34:15 PM If planned right we can everything in place so it would only be a 2-4 day trip for you.
Title: Re: Transmission Upgrates for auto Post by: Blackhawk on February 21, 2009, 03:47:17 PM There are a few other things involved with AT to MT swap when performing the swap on coupes. As far as I know (Skippy can add to this), there is an electronic intake runner control solenoid, lighter pulleys, variable and dual intake runner system, and some suspension differences. I suggest you do plenty research before attempting a swap, or just upgrade your torque converter using level ten products. I heard about some of their Corvette and Camaro projects and those Automatic cars smoke a lot of MT cars of the same horsepower and driver skill.
-JT Title: Re: Transmission Upgrates for auto Post by: NVA-AV6 on February 21, 2009, 04:22:49 PM The runner control solinoid is NOT required, the wiring will be there with the new engine harness and if you find a MT intake it is nice, but really doesn't do a whole lot.
Oh, and I have already swapped 2 7th gens , 2 6 th gens, and 3 2nd gen TLs in the last year....... Title: Re: Transmission Upgrates for auto Post by: Blackhawk on February 22, 2009, 02:13:52 PM Not saying it was 110% required either. Just implying that if you are going to do a project, it would be nice to set everything up the way it was meant to be from factory, that's all

Title: Re: Transmission Upgrates for auto Post by: LiquidX on March 17, 2009, 06:32:45 PM Very good information here, But with these prices i might just upgrade to a 2007 v6 6sp EXL sedan. But if i ever go through paul, it will be a 3.6l build

Title: Re: Transmission Upgrates for auto Post by: LiquidX on March 17, 2009, 07:52:14 PM A guy on v6p swapped his shifter assembly for one out of a 99 tl, i dont know whether he got the tiptronic to work, but the interior looks much nicer with the stairway shifter. I know nicepeta swapped the pedal shifters out of a tl or tl-s and got them to work on his v6.
Title: Re: Transmission Upgrates for auto Post by: NVA-AV6 on March 17, 2009, 08:13:27 PM No, I did not get triptronic to work properly, I needed to get the TL ECU rekeyed and did not have access to the programmer needed at the time.

Title: Re: Transmission Upgrates for auto Post by: Mike on March 17, 2009, 09:10:41 PM I've seen someone else ask him about this, and I believe it involved quite a bit of work, the ECU etc.
Title: Re: Transmission Upgrates for auto Post by: skizot on March 17, 2009, 11:33:31 PM I agree with Paul about Level 10, not the best option. As for the swaps, not impossible, just not fun. Paul. I am curious, in your experience. What is the total cost, parts and labor, to do this?

Also, I know this is terribly old but I am very curious as to what type of costs would be involved in doing this tranny swap?
Title: Re: Transmission Upgrates for auto Post by: NVA-AV6 on July 11, 2012, 04:27:24 PM Last one I did about a month ago using a TL tranny with LSD ended up right at $4900.
Title: Re: Transmission Upgrates for auto Post by: Fanitron on July 11, 2012, 06:08:20 PM Damn.. I know you're the one to go to for this so when the day comes I will be hitting you up. Do you know if it would be significantly less if we could find a 6-speed from another Accord?
Title: Re: Transmission Upgrates for auto Post by: NVA-AV6 on July 11, 2012, 07:07:13 PM About $500 less
Title: Re: Transmission Upgrates for auto Post by: timot_one on July 11, 2012, 08:03:01 PM For the $500 difference, I'd get the LSD tranny.
Title: Re: Transmission Upgrates for auto Post by: Fanitron on July 11, 2012, 11:40:04 PM $500 would be my hotel and prob gas to get to Paul for this swap LOL... this may be in my future plans...
