Title: Operation Boom Boom Boom: Complete (with pics and install!) Post by: rich on September 16, 2009, 08:15:10 PM Alrighty folks so here it is finally...the new set-up for my system. still consisting of the same amps:
Rockford P1000-1bd Rockford P400-4 Rockford 3Sixty.2 Processor (2) Rockford P3D412 Subs here's the teasers with my 2 sets of Alpine Type R 6 1/2" components getting installed http://www.v6performance.net/forums/showthread.php?t=195770 The type Rs are so much cleaner than the Infinity Kappa Perfects! I bought 6x9 adapter plates off crutchfield to get the 6.5" fit with no problems in the rear. here is the old setup (standard ported box with black suede & black vinyl trimmed and floor trimmed out) torsion bars still intact and factory navigation in OEM location (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v505/chillininfl/04accord/8-1-08-systemNsuedefinished/detail8-1-08nightpic5.jpg) (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v505/chillininfl/04accord/8-1-08-systemNsuedefinished/detail8-1-08027.jpg) amps still the same (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v505/chillininfl/04accord/system-REDO/systemclean9-16-09002.jpg) now more than a year later bandpass through the rear deck. had to modify metal rear deck and cut a hole in it (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v505/chillininfl/04accord/system-REDO/holeinside.jpg) metal gone (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v505/chillininfl/04accord/system-REDO/chunkmetal.jpg) resprayed the factory 6x9 speaker grill covers SEM black b/c they were a lil faded (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v505/chillininfl/04accord/system-REDO/speakergrill.jpg) comparison between old box and new box (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v505/chillininfl/04accord/system-REDO/oldnewboxes2.jpg) 3/4" plexi for front of box (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v505/chillininfl/04accord/system-REDO/plexifacethick.jpg) support for the box and a test fit. on top of having to lose torsion bars i had to use a broom until we figured out something to hold up the trunk (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v505/chillininfl/04accord/system-REDO/boxfitment1.jpg) subs wired up and mounted in box (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v505/chillininfl/04accord/system-REDO/subsinbox2.jpg) relocated navigation wires to driver side corner of trunk (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v505/chillininfl/04accord/system-REDO/navwiresthru1.jpg) getting ready to "frost spray" 'Accord' vinyl sticker on the 3/4" plexi (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v505/chillininfl/04accord/system-REDO/accordprep.jpg) tested and lit up with 2 oznium 12" white cathodes (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v505/chillininfl/04accord/system-REDO/accordplexion4.jpg) box in trunk and making trim panel (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v505/chillininfl/04accord/system-REDO/trunkpanelsbuilt2.jpg) (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v505/chillininfl/04accord/system-REDO/trunkpanelsbuilt5.jpg) FIN!: (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v505/chillininfl/04accord/system-REDO/trunkfinished1.jpg) (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v505/chillininfl/04accord/system-REDO/trunkfinished2.jpg) (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v505/chillininfl/04accord/system-REDO/trunkfinished3.jpg) so for trunk support my coworker just got another piece of 3/4" MDF and wrapped it in black vinyl and recessed a piece of mirror plexi to give it a nice look instead of just a piece of wood lol. yea i couldve spent the money and did some type of linear actuator or motorization but i didnt want to spend any more money and i am happy with the way it is. i don't use my trunk for anything so i barely open it! (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v505/chillininfl/04accord/system-REDO/systemclean9-16-09010.jpg) (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v505/chillininfl/04accord/system-REDO/systemclean9-16-09011.jpg) (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v505/chillininfl/04accord/system-REDO/systemclean9-16-09014.jpg) (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v505/chillininfl/04accord/system-REDO/systemclean9-16-09015.jpg) trimmed out a port piece. screws are there to hold the panel down because the bass was rattling it with just velcro. screws cant be see but b/c of the flash on my cam you can see in pic (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v505/chillininfl/04accord/system-REDO/systemclean9-16-09005.jpg) oh yeah here's what everyone was waiting to see. navigation Rom relocated: (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v505/chillininfl/04accord/system-REDO/systemclean9-16-09016.jpg) and OH YES. IT SLAMS! I haven't gotten it metered yet but its pretty loud. 100x louder than it was before! Title: Re: Operation Boom Boom Boom: Complete (with pics and install!) Title: Re: Operation Boom Boom Boom: Complete (with pics and install!) Post by: timot_one on September 17, 2009, 12:30:20 AM Looks good. Like Steve mentioned, it must suck having no trunk space at all. Since you mentioned never using the trunk, I'm sure you don't mind. What did you use to design the enclosure and what are the specs?

what did you use to "frost" the accord logo onto the plexi? Title: Re: Operation Boom Boom Boom: Complete (with pics and install!) Post by: rich on September 17, 2009, 12:11:27 PM it's just called "Frost" spray. you can get it a home depot for like 5 bucks a can.

Title: Re: Operation Boom Boom Boom: Complete (with pics and install!) Post by: timot_one on September 18, 2009, 09:43:14 PM Did you use SW to design the box, or just design it based on the specs of the subs? Sorry, I'm just real curious about that stuff.
Title: Re: Operation Boom Boom Boom: Complete (with pics and install!) Post by: rich on September 19, 2009, 02:29:25 PM SW?
Title: Re: Operation Boom Boom Boom: Complete (with pics and install!) Post by: timot_one on September 19, 2009, 08:47:12 PM SW = Software
Don't mind me. I'm used to using my own shorthand because of how I document stuff at work. Did you use software to design your sub enclosure? I've heard good things about Bass Box Pro since it has the Thiele-Small parameters for pretty much all the subwoofers manufactured and has templates so you don't waste MDF. Title: Re: Operation Boom Boom Boom: Complete (with pics and install!) Post by: rich on September 19, 2009, 09:11:18 PM nope just based it on the specs of the subs. we dont need no software at bby

So, you guys don't tune the box to the customer? I just know that the manufacturers spec's are just a general "middle of the road" enclosure design with a Qtc of like .9. You can make a set of 10"s sound tight or sloppy based on the design of the enclosure. Title: Re: Operation Boom Boom Boom: Complete (with pics and install!) Post by: rich on September 20, 2009, 01:37:58 PM it's tuned to i think 30hz.

got a video today Slim Thug - Boss of All Bosses playing. the bass distorts my camera but does NOT cancel out my components. my mids/highs are crystal clear http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYfh0t43Sl4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYfh0t43Sl4) |
