Title: iTunes
Post by: suleman_manji on August 21, 2009, 11:41:30 AM
Don't you just hate it sometimes? I mean shit it's great when you want it to be great but at those times when you actually want to do something different in there it always fucks up (i.e. last night when I went to reload all of my play lists and somehow it erased ALL MY FRICKEN' PLAY LISTS... it was close to 1000 (collection of music all the way back from middle school))

/rant

Wondering:

-Who has a hefty library?
-To whoever does: How do you organize your library?

i ahve about 4000 in my library...
i only have ipod nano... so that holds like 1000 songs

so i try to have my shit seperated into genre's
and then i keep those around 500 songs per genre (mix a few together)

reggae, new rap, old school rap, techno, rock n roll, purchased itunes

that way i can swap things in and out depending on what i wanna listen to

usually jam to the reggae and old school rap....

bob marley has his own folder with like 200+ songs haha

I have a crazy library. enough songs to play 24 hours straight for over 36 days.

with so many songs, I gave up on organizing playlists a long time ago and just have the ipod on a continuous non-repeating shuffle. But note that not all of my songs fit on my ipod.

Im a ipod newbie, I've got the nano and love it, but usually use the 'Genius' function and play off that baby.

the only thing is that I only use the ipod in the car and sometimes I wonder how many more times can I hit forward until my steering wheel controls break, lol. So I just swap, steering wheel forward, to head unit forward then give both a break and use the factory navi touch screen forward, lol.

I have only one thing to say about iTunes. It sucks balls. I only use it to throw some music, ringtones or anything iPhone related into my phone. That's it. I have a Zen for my music needs and that has about 25 gigs worth of music in it. If I get tired of my music, I just open up Pandora on my phone.

Shuffle is what I usually do on the ipod but at home what I had set up was Folders of Genre, then sub-folders for artists then in those sub-folders I had play lists for cds ascending in order from date released. I MISS MY FOLDERS!!!

I see. I let WMP do up the playlists and shit. Like I said, I only use iTunes for my phone. If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't have anything Apple related. Just my .02.

10780 items total in iTunes

9935 songs
12 movies
20 TV shows
813 podcasts

160 gb iPod classic - car audio
60 gb iPod video - car video
32 gb iPod touch - always in my pocket
20 gb 3rd Gen iPod - always at my office
1 gb 2nd Gen iPod shuffle - always in my pocket

I'm an organization freak, so I make sure that everything is organized by genre, artist, album, and so forth.  I have the browser feature enabled to navigate through all my music.

I've got a hefty library.... 11,714 songs right now to be exact...enough music to play for over a month straight. (33.2 days). It takes up 64 GB on my hard drive. I'm gonna need to upgrade my iPod soon or start gettin rid of stuff i don't listen to...

Browser feature? Couldn't live without it...

I don't use iTunes. I don't use playlists. Easy and simple. :P

I rarely use my iPod for music unless I'm on a trip anyways. My car doesn't have iPod integration (yet), so I just burn a bunch of CDs. The only time I use iTunes is for syncing my music, and that's it.

You still run on CDs? That's so 90s! Just playing Jeff. I see iTunes as a pain in the dick. Why does Apple insist on trying to take over the world? I'll stick with my PC and WMP thank you very much.

BTW, let's not turn this into a Mac pwns PC or whatever thread. I was just ranting.

LOL....oh the thought of countless mix CDs being "easy and simple" -shudder-

And I could reverse your question Z: Why doesn't Windows make all their programs Mac-compatible?

Personally I don't see what there is to hate about iTunes...drag your music into iTunes and it organizes everything for you...unless your media doesn't have ID3 tags in which case you've got to fill everything out manually anyway...

I do think things are simplified to the point where it is easy to make a mistake like deleting all your playlists or erasing your iPod by accidentally syncing to the wrong computer...the key here is backup. Backup backup backup. Once iTunes organizes all my music for me I just copy the iTunes Music folder and back it up. Each backup you have cuts your chances of losing stuff in half.

As for hating iTunes, I don't. As I stated previously, I have a Creative Labs: Zen Vision M. No need for iTunes. My iTunes is only for my 8gb iPhone that I hardly connect to my PC anyway.

exactly what i did but i do it differently (export library and it makes one .xml file with all playlists and folders) and somehow it messed up. damn file was 70+ mb!

And as of this matter of my library: i gave in and reorganized strictly by star rating. it's gonna take forever to give each song a rating lol.

That "somehow it messed up" is how I learned not to use that method. LOL for some reason for me it would just create the .xml file and I'd still have to copy all my music and stuff...

And Z before anyone gets into the OS war, I will remind everyone that XEROX made the first Graphical User Interface, which Apple copied to create Macintosh, which Microsoft copied off of to create Windows.  :P
