Title: Slow Shutter speed Post by: exelr8 on August 06, 2009, 01:26:36 PM Last night whilst at work I learned abotu the joys of shutter speed from digital photography schools forum nad decided to take off my uniform shirt and walk around after work and try it out so here are some slow shutter speed pics i took last ngiht. Hope you guys enjoy and let me know whta you think.

Title: Re: Slow Shutter speed Post by: dizzle on August 06, 2009, 02:25:31 PM actually the technique your doing is a zoom blur. while you do have it on a slow shutter speed, i see your zooming in/out while the shutter is still open which gives you the effect from the photos you took. i really like the pizza sign though where it looks like its coming at ya.

I am taking a photography class starting this semester hopefully I can pic up a lot more stuff. I was using a 1.6" shutter speed and zooming in while it was open. they would have been a lot better if I had brought my tripod to work with me.
The no cruising and loitering is because it was a private lot and they forgot to take the sign down and it means you cant just randomly circle the lot and you cant hang out in the lot you can only park there for free Title: Re: Slow Shutter speed Post by: dizzle on August 06, 2009, 09:44:40 PM thats cool, i took a photography class myself. unfortunately i didnt learn much that i didnt know before. the only thing i got was just that zoom blur technique. as far as having no tripod, i still think the photos came out good, it has the pop out squiggly effect lol.
one thing i learned about doing zoom blurs was trying to match the zoom speed with the shutter speed. just something you can try. another fun thing you can do is mess around with the aperture mode. if you have the f/stop at a high value on a tripod (since it looks like you like to take photos at night) youll get a starburst effect without buying a starburst filter. its not completely off topic with slow shutter speeds since it goes hand in hand Title: Re: Slow Shutter speed Post by: exelr8 on August 07, 2009, 12:08:58 AM thanks for the tip Don, I will have to try that. I have not played with the Aperture mode very much yet all I have been playing with is the Shutter speed setting and learning to properly mix the shutter speed with the lighting conditions and movement of the subject. I have a feeling I will get the same result from the class I am taking it is a beginning photography class and it is really designed to teach everyone how to use all of the settings and venture away from Auto mode. Hopefully i will take a few things from the class.
