Title: HELP: Oil got poured around engine
Post by: Silver Bullet on July 20, 2009, 03:31:18 PM
Hey guys, I have three questions. I'll keep it short. I was changing my oil and my drunk father came and took the oil and poured it for me while I was gone and he ended up making a mess having it spill on the engine and it ended up going deep down in the engine bay. I read the manual and it said that any oil that gets onto the engine compartments could damage it. Should I really worry about this?

Also one of the rubber parts close to where my CAI is cracking...Again, should I worry about that also? I'll post a pic of it when I get a chance.

Thanks for any help guys.

As far as the oil, just spray some degreaser on a cool engine. Wait a few minutes and hose it off. Don't go crazy with the water, too much is a bad thing.

For that cracking part, you can get a replacement here:

http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/aut ... R+%28L4%29 (http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/auto/jsp/mws/prddisplay.jsp?inputstate=5&catcgry1=ACCORD&catcgry2=2005&catcgry3=4DR+EX&catcgry4=KA5AT&catcgry5=AIR+CLEANER+%28L4%29)
part number 2

I didn't know if your car is an 05 or not, but I could tell that you have a MAF, so I assumed that it was. And I think you put that part that's cracking on backwards, lol. Take a look at the illustration.

It's part #3 that needs replacing Jeff, not #2 and I think your right about it being upside down.

Drunk pouring FTL....I would do what Jeremy suggested though and get a funnel next time ya pops try to do something like that again.

Aha, it is. I forgot that the part that's cracked isn't a part of #2, lol. My bad.

Thanks-a-million guys! Slipkord, I recently degreased and washed my engine bay so that's a relief now, thanks! I went to the stealership and had no luck because they said their parts store are backed up on order for this particular part so I guess maybe I can manage. The crack isn't all that severe BUT i'll reposition the joint I put in wrong. Thanks for lookin' out Jeff.

Won't it be better to get it at his local dealership as opposed to paying like 10 bucks for shipping and 5 bucks for their handling fee for a $2 part? I'm sure there's another Honda dealership in his area.

I agree. the online site was just a reference so he can get a part number and any other info to take to the dealership. That's what I did with the MT shift boot. If you can give them a part number, or even just describe it, they usually can order it for you. At my dealership, I gave the guy all the info, and he was able to place an order. Of course, I had to make the payment up front. They shipped it next day too.

Another thing to keep in mind is that oil eats away at rubber (in a way) so try to get it off hoses, bushings, and couplings asap.

Or you could just say to hell with it, and get an OBX oil catch can.

I'll be doing this in due time.

How would that be relevant to the OP's drunk dad pouring oil everywhere but the crank case?

Cool...He would have to get the correct part number from hondapartsunlimited.com or bkhondaparts.com cuz I think Majestic uses a different number to describe/label their parts.

I've also notice some people eliminated that breather joint altogether and just put a hose there.  I dunno what kind of benefit that would accomplish though.

If I'm not mistaken, that cracked hose is a part of the blow-by thing, which usually spits oil back into the intake. That's what I was talking about, not the spilled oil.

Backorder means they've ordered "so many" of that part and have yet to receive it. Not necessarily that other people have ordered it.
