Title: damn it feels good to be back Post by: skizot on July 15, 2009, 08:06:48 PM Minus a post here or there, I have been pretty much MIA for a while now. I have become a lurker. I read through the new posts each day, but my time is so freaking limited, that I barely post up, unless there is some downtime, which I have not had much of.
But I came to a conclusion... For those of you who know me, outside the forums, you probably know I am a work-a-holic. No, not because my engine bay looks cleaner then new cars sitting in the showroom, because I literally spend more time at my career, then I do with friends and family. Due to recent events (yes, still employed) I have come to realize that I cannot make work, my only or even my number one focus. I am probably older then the average age on the boards here and not getting younger, time to enjoy and live life, away from work. Therefore, I am hoping to have more energy and be more active on the forums. I am hoping to attend the upcoming FLCM event on 8.1 in Daytona, I am hoping to clean my engine bay again (It has been more then 4 months since the last time I even opened the hood and I am not joking about that). It feels good to be back! Yes - I still have the Porsche and weather permitting, I will drive that to the 8.1 meet!!! Title: Re: damn it feels good to be back Post by: Mike on July 15, 2009, 08:16:24 PM Scott I'm very happy to see you back! I'm even happier with the realization you have made. I'm on the older side also, and made a similar realization last year. I came to the point where I realized that my employer finally fell below the people in my life.
Title: Re: damn it feels good to be back Post by: CrackerTeg on July 15, 2009, 08:29:38 PM Welcome back Scott. There have been a few changes since you began your hiatus. Glad you made that realization. I have yet to make it since work has never been number one in my life. Maybe I'll take what I do more seriously some day.

I was putting in an average of 65 to 70 hours a week for a bit over 6 months. Work started to slow down but its slowly starting to pick up again. I'm trying to be as active as I can on the forums. I've been so busy at work and have been so committed to it, that sometimes I forget to have fun.

Listen that is the best thing you could do because our youth passed so fast that before one knows the time for fun and games no longer available nor accepted as easily.
“31 year old here” Thank god the career I went into was entertainment but now I don’t enjoy going to clubs, concerts, etc because it feels like work. Title: Re: damn it feels good to be back Post by: Blackhawk on July 16, 2009, 09:19:35 AM I had the same enlightening a year ago after I cut my overtime in half. I was working 70-80 hours weekly and just realized I wasn't having a life. I am glad how things are right now. Glad it's working out for you too, Scott. See you on 8/1.

I've been so busy at work and have been so committed to it, that sometimes I forget to have fun. I've come that realitization a long time ago but unfortunately the way my job works if I'm not here then I'm not making anything. So I've been dealing with these hours for the last 5 years and have been slowly taking a break over the last 6 months because I've acquired enough money to not have to make that much. However no weekends or really a social life besides once a month or so is taking a toll on my mentally. Def considering a switch in careers but all of the stuff I'm good at requires the same demand of hours. So I'm pondering at the moment... What do you do? Where do you work? I am just a little older then you. |
