Title: Seafoam FTW
Post by: thisaznboi88 on July 15, 2009, 06:13:58 PM
i just seafoam my car today and I must say even though my car only has 38k on it the seafoam removed a lot of stuff. There was a big puffy cloud of smoke for 1 min.

anyways the car is a lot quieter. I never really had idle problems but yeah idle is still good.

All you have to do for this is you can do it either 3 ways crank, gastank, and manifold.

I just did the manifold since I only had 1/3 left and it was my first time so i was kinda scared. I got a seperate tube to use with the seafoam since I heard it will chew up your gasket if you leave it on for too long. I remove the break booster line and attach this new tube in. had a friend start the car while i have my finger on the tube to stop it from leaning out and stalling. Then I semiclosed it with my thumb while letting the seafoam get sucked into the tube. Afterwards I let the car sit off for 10-15 mins to let it soak in and remove the carbon deposit. After the waiting period you can turn on your car n just rev it till all the white smoke is gone. or let it idle until it is gone. I rev it of course I could have drove it hard too but I rather not risk my safety and other people safety on the road because of the big white smoke. All in all really easy thing to do to have the car running as good as stock again

just remember when using that you wanna do it real slow. if you suck that into your motor it will not work as good. Thats why at my dealer. we have a canaster that we put intake system cleaner into and compress it and it slowly dumps it into your motor so it can completely degunk your entire intake system.

yup that is what I did. Dumped 1/2 can really slowly. I had my thumb on the the tube I put on n miniumized the flow so that it doesn't lock because you can hydrolock your motor if you flood it with this stuff.

I want to try it out since I just hit 90k last week. But I think it would be easier for me to do it from the gastank .. any sugestions?

you should really add a 1/3 of bottle of the seafoam to the gas tank, the intake, and in the oil fill, using a total of one bottle then change your oil about 500 miles later. this would have the greatest effect.

I would think so Justin because the cars I saw in some of the youtube videos had over 200K on them...

I think I will do this soon too because I am now at 125K

Can I do it strickly to my gas tank and not the intake, and in the oil fill?

You could pour it strictly into your gas tank. Follow the directions on the bottle though. It won't clean out as well as a direct feed to your intake tract, though.

I've always used the BG stuff for cleaning out injectors and fuel system.  I wanna say Paul at some point said that he wouldnt use Seafoam but I can seem to remember why. I was hoping he would've posted in this thread by now but I'll try and get ahold of him to see what he says.

Here's what he had to say

Quote from: "NVA-AV6"
The problem with seafoam is when you use it , it does its job very well, losens up ALL the carbon and crud, including the stuff in the intake, this hard cruddy material then has to pass thru your cylinders on it's way out and then can clog cats and score up cylinder walls, the stuff doesn't just vaporize.....

never thought of that, good argument.

i could imagine that being the case and another reason not to use seafoam on high mileage vehicles.  under the 90K or 75K recommendation i would think any amount of carbon passing through the cylinders wouldnt be enough to clog anything

that's exactly what i had in mind

Look for the large round black thing on the driver's side. If you don't know where that is, you probably should not be doing anything under your hood.

If you still can't figure out how to do it after it was explained in the OP and asking the same question more than once, you may not be qualified to work on your own car.  If I were you, I'd pass on the seafoam so you don't mess anything up.  If you really want to have it done, bring your car to a qualified mechanic.

im scared to put it in the oil. If you leave it in there too long it will start to eat the gasket.

I know it's an old post, but what gasket will it eat?

Problem is they don't read the OP
