Title: Painting Dash Trim
Post by: Jeff Likes Bagels on July 06, 2009, 11:26:18 PM
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I should approach this? I'm thinking about painting the dash trim in the interior (I've got the birdseye wood trim) flat or maybe even a glossy black.

Do you guys think it'd look okay with the tan interior?

Somebody has it, I just can remember who. I believe it is white. I'll go look.

I found it in th show off your system thread. It's Philly Steve.

I think a gloss black would look nice, but as far as how to do it I have no clue.

If you have the pieces that stick on, you'll want to remove them.  Then prep them with a scuffing pad so the paint will adhere to it.  After that, prime and paint.  I'd make sure to use paint that is meant for plastics so you don't have any issues.

What about clear coating? Is that necessary?

if you're gonna do it, you may as well do it right - esp if you go gloss black.  id def clearcoat it if nothing else for protection.

I think I'm going to try getting a photoshopped picture in soon. That way I can sort of tell how it'll look.

It's possible but they're like riveted to the door panel so it would be kinda hard to put them back on.

I've done this in a car in the past, and the best advise that I can give you is to do the proper prep, and take you time. Us many thing coats of paint. It really isn't something to do in a hurry!
