Thanks. Yeah I painted the valve cover, IM cover and dipstick myself. Paul(NVA-AV6) powdercoated the UR pullies for me. Here's a better one of the dipstick.

Great shots of the red i want to do the top of my manifold since i have a v6 to match my intake . am gonna have to bribe one of you guys with beer to do it for me lol am a noob when it comes to paint

Unfortunately, Jeff, black is waaaay underrated. I think it's because people like things to stand out, but I think it would look awesome and I encourage you to do it!

You can't use OEM paint to do the valve cover. You need High Temperature paint! Paint it yourself dude save the $$$. It's really easy to do. Just make sure you have a new gasket set handy when you do it though. UMmm that will be tooOo much black going on. You need a color to contrast what you have already painted black I think! What's your second favorite color???? Maybe go with a gold wrinkle finish..... just my 0.02!!!

Hey Billy, what's the brand of this spray paint cuz I could never find an orange color in stock and did you prime it before painting or just paint it just like that after sanding of course? I'm looking for a metallic orange, something close to Ksport color.

I don't think that will work because the heat comes from the inside. The clear would protect it from external heat.

^ I was thinking the same thing. Maybe some high temp primer and then OEM paint would work. That's what my body shop did for my brake calipers about a year ago and they're still picture perfect.

Thanks man. Sometimes the one 4 blocks from me never has a full stock of all the colors. I would have to try a different Autozone next time.

I dont think they make high temp primer but I could be wrong about that. I know I havent seen any. Maybe he could use a high temp light gray color as a substitute for the primer then put the OEM color over that. That's what they probably did.

That might work but I would probably use a High Temperature light color (gray) first then use your OEM paint then use the High Temperature clear coat...

First step would be to buy the products first such as:
paint stripper
Tools to remove the paint (SCRAPER)
Gloves that can resist the paint stripper because it burns if left on the hand for a while
Steel brushes(to get to the small areas)
Heat resistant Primer
Heat resistant Paint
Heat Gun(i used it for my wrinkle paint cause no way i was putting that in the oven)
Painters Tape
Xacto blades

1.First step would be to apply the paint stripper to the cover because that paint is really on there
then let is set for a while until you see the paint start to get mushy

2.Use the srapers and the brushes to manually strip the paint.

You will have to repeat the above two steps to get the paint all off

3. Next you will have to clean the manifold off with water and soap (i used degreaser) to get all the paint and paint stripper residue off

4. Let it dry

5. Apply the painters tape on the places that you dont want painted and cut the excess off with the xacto blade

6.Now we are ready for the Primer. I only applied one coat of primer then i let it sit for 10min

7. I then applied 3 coats of the wrinkle paint. Between each coat you must use the heat gun to dry it for an minute and then i let it sit for another 10 mins

You could bake your Valve cover but who really wants there next meal tasting like paint

Wrinkle paint from VHT only come in Red and Black but i read that you can apply any color you wnt over it and still have the wrinkl affect

Looks like they do make high temp primer, but you could be right and they are just calling it that. Who knows, but this would work for those who want to use OEM paint as the base coat.

LOL, nah I took the kodak before I applied the DMM. I will have to take another kodak but I will wait until it is on his ride for that one. It does look really nice with the DMM letters though.

I applied clear coat to the machined letters first, like 2 coats then used the DMM. Now I have applied clear coat on the whole Valve Cover. Waiting on NWINNIE to order gasket set as we speak!

Thanks man, yea the wrinkle effect does look nice. Gives me an idea to use the wrinkle paint first then apply whatever color I want over it lightly to hold the same effect! ....back to the lab, lol

yeah it was a lil crazy but i have skills with an Xacto blade

i love the wrinkle black too but i would keep it flat...i think you cleared over it to get the gloss affect.
if you want different colors you can do it this way too. use the wrinkle as the base and spray what ever color you want over it

Oh my bad... it's not hard at all to swap the valve cover dude. Very easy to do! Now the painting is what takes time.

It comes off and goes back on just like lego. If you follow Billy’s DIY you should be fine… However, I joined the pass your valve cover down program to avoid the prep work needed to paint. Billy should start charging already because he has gotten nice with this…

Pass your Valve Cover down program FTW! As for me charging.... me charge never dude, if it helps out a fellow member then im for it! Besides it allows me to do what I enjoy... and thanks I am getting nice as I go!

Yea def order Illustration #8 (2-3pcs) just incase you snap a bolt and need a replacement. Honda Dealers don't carry these on hand and have to be ordered! Illustration #1. Buy the set, when replacing the valve cover gasket it is suggested to replace the valve cover gasket, o-ring gaskets and spark plug gaskets... all which seal the valve cover!

i have my gasket set and recently painted my engine and spark plug covers DMM... came out DAMN good
i cant wait to get my valve cover... gonna look nice !

There is a metal gasket underneath. You do not need to replace it. Some will tell you that you need to, but that is ultimately your call. With it being metal, it works fine after removal and reinstall and not worth the $20 it cost to replace. I DID NOT replace mine when I did my valve cover, that was 50,000 miles ago and I have never had a problem.

I was lucky enough for the guy to ship the gasket as well. It only had 17k miles on it, so I might just use it since it looks so fresh and so clean clean.
