I've been thinking about this... how difficult is it to install hydraulic hood lifts like for the Acuras? Where would I even find these? lol

you missed a killer group buy a while back... check in that section of the forum... you can still buy one but not with ground buy discount
i think only thing you need is a rivot gun

Just be careful guys...if anybody is on the list that has a CF hood, it won't work very well....the struts will cause the hood to bend and when you open the hood have fun not getting smacked in the chin.  As for standard weight hoods, NP there, go for it!

I did it on my car. btw, its all the v6 hondas/acuras that get the hood struts. for example a 5th gen accord v6 has hood struts whereas a brand new tsx 4 cylinder has the prop stick.

Its all good Mike. It does bring this back to life for anyone that hasn't seen it. Paperboy did his conversion with OEM parts though. I remember seeing his threads on DA and v6p.

Lets see a little DIY action then I'm sure some folks might want to do this with OEM parts.

I kinda like the redline ones mounting solution. 

My car has them stock. I had to replace them a few thousand miles ago and I bought them from Majestic Honda. Thing is, I don't know if you can buy everything you need to install them on a prop-hood car.

You'll need items 14, 16, 31, and 51.

The problem with that is that cars that come with a hood prop rod do not have the L brackets that the bottom of the hood shocks mount to.  You either have to weld or bolt in some brackets like paperboy did, or you can just get the redline ones that come with brackets that you use pop rivets to hold in place.

Ah ha. Well, that sounds rather important as well.

In my opinion, there are down sides to having the shocks. It adds a step to removing the hood if you ever had to. Also, it limits how high the hood can be lifted. Of course, the shocks can be disconnected to avoid these issues. The more important down side is that they are something else on the car that will inevitably have to be replaced once they fail like my old ones.

Valid points.  I don't think too many people would be removing their hoods, but I am positive a lot of people would think twice if they want lift it up high to work on their car.  A low hood can get in the way easily.
