Title: Lit-up Speaker Grills Post by: Jeff Likes Bagels on June 09, 2009, 11:00:44 PM I'm sure this is more of a rice thing than anything else, but I liked the concept. If you noticed the commercials on the new Kia Soul cars, the speaker grills light up and apparently strobe to the rhythm of the music. I was wondering on an electrical standpoint, does anyone have any idea on how this was achieved? Maybe one day I'll end up doing the same to my Gen7, lol. It'd be a nice touch for when I'm rocking to some techno music, haha.

Makes me wonder how annoyed some of the people get when they get their new Kia Soul and have to see that anytime they want to listen to music. ![]() Title: Re: Lit-up Speaker Grills Post by: AV6NHBP6SPD on June 10, 2009, 10:05:36 AM was thinking of using EL white for that but dont think it will be bright enough. my guess could be like bmw angel eyes or CCFL tubes
Title: Re: Lit-up Speaker Grills Post by: v6sicksspeed on June 10, 2009, 10:24:35 AM i like the idea of having dim lights in the grill, but not the strobe feature. had a friend that had underseat neons that did it and it got real annoying, real fast.

I had those in my Mitsubishi Mirage like 7 years ago and they strobed with the music as well. And yes it did get very old very fast. LOL! Title: Re: Lit-up Speaker Grills Post by: timot_one on June 10, 2009, 01:26:25 PM I'm not sure about them pulsing with the music, but they should make circular CCFL tubes in a large enough diameter. I'm not that crazy about the idea myself, but who knows. As an accent, these would be up there with under dash lights. If it's the right color and not extremely bright, it could be pulled off and not look like complete dog shit.
Title: Re: Lit-up Speaker Grills Post by: AV6NHBP6SPD on June 10, 2009, 08:32:30 PM i think if it doesn strobe it will be better
Title: Re: Lit-up Speaker Grills Post by: Antoni0_23 on June 12, 2009, 11:46:20 AM I'd give this a try. But I agree I think without any pulsations it'd look better. A friend of mine has some clarion speakers with a built in LED that flashes to the beat of music.
Title: Re: Lit-up Speaker Grills Post by: Jeff Likes Bagels on June 12, 2009, 01:42:08 PM Putting some of those EL lights around it sounds cool. How would you get it to power though? Sorry, but i'm a complete noob when it comes to car electronics lol
Title: Re: Lit-up Speaker Grills Post by: timot_one on June 12, 2009, 11:56:35 PM Just so you guys know, speaker quality is all about how it sounds, not about how it looks. That little tidbit of information is for the newbs.

They might as well have put lemmings instead of hamsters. Only a company as desperate for customers as Kia would put sound-pulsing speaker grille lights as a stock option.
