Title: Wiper review and maintenance
Post by: thisaznboi88 on March 14, 2009, 10:32:19 PM
Well I bought set of michelin radius for my accord in dec. they were like 29. buck after tax and came with a 10 dollar rebate. anyways after 3-4 months of use they are sucking bad.... I mean epik streaks all over the place... So if you see them SAVE your money!!! and get some valeo, rain x laditude, or bosch icons.. if you want performance blade.

if you just want regular blade just get the refill from honda. They should save you some cash...  and change them every 6-12 months.

If anyone has any experience they want to share please post.

I've had pretty good luck with my Bosch Icons.  My first set had streaks on the DS wiper.  My current set is flawless.  I'm considering trying out the Rain X Lattitudes next though.  Depends on what's cheaper though.  Rain X has a promotion for a free visibility pack (http://www.rainx.com/offer/).

I have some Piaas awhile back. It last about 4 years without any streaks. I was really impressed. Then I switched to some Bosch Icons that I can get from work. First set, they streaked after 3 months. I'm on my second set of Bosch Icons. They are doing OK for now, but if they streak soon, I'm going to consider either going back to Piaas or getting Rain X latitude.

I got the RainX [non-latitude] blades on and they work almost too well?

They squeak and jump on my windshield almost as if they're grabbing it too hard but clean off all the water amazingly.

I've had them on for about a year now but they've been doing that after 3 months of use.

It sucks during downpours when you need them to clean of water quickly but you can't put them on a faster setting because they'll jump across your windshield. anybody have input on this?

I have the Bosch Icons and they blow. A few people with Accords have problems with them just skipping over the windshield. I am planning on replacing them with the Valeos of tirerack.com

I've had the Valeos for about 5 months and they streak like crazy! I'm not the biggest fan. I think I'm going to go with the rain ex.

Thanks for the review. I was thinking about those 2 also. I ono its either the wiper has problem or the accord windshield is funky??

So rain x it is

i've got valeo's and they streak. third set too because i got advanced auto to replace them if they skipped, then they found out it's the rain-x spray on the windshield. so if anyone does use it and your wipers skip, stop using rain-x! mine is just now starting to go away but i still have streaks. maybe i'll grab some rain-x latitudes.

I got the Bosch Icon for a long time now and havent had no problems whatsoever. The only issue is that the blade doesnt quite touch the bottom passenger side of the windshield when it's at rest, so when it wipes it misses that spot. I got the Rain-X Latitude for my gf E46 cuz of the free pack it comes with and she's AMAZED at how well it cleans her windshield. With the piece of shit wipers she had before, that's a big deal and improvement. So with the Icons or Latitudes you cant go wrong with either since they both look identical to me.

Hey guys, haven't posted in quite some time as I've been busy with work and school...hope to get active again soon.

I've noticed my windshield wiper blades just aren't doing the job anymore, leaving streaks and not clearing the windshield properly in the rain. Anyone recommend a good wiper blade? (amazon link?)

Also, how easy/difficult is it to install wiper blades...I've never done it, but assume its not too bad. Any DIYs?

I just bought mine from Honda so I don't know any others. But about the wiper blades, I didn't know how to do it either but played with it and got it, its not hard at all.

I did...I couldn't find a thread about windshield wipers. Best I could find was peoples car mod lists on their profiles

Sam, I merged your topic with the previous one. It was in K-series stock maintenance. I went ahead and merged the two topics then moved them back into Exterior Styling and Maintenance, since it seemed more fitting.

Thanks Jeff!

So any body else have some more recent recommendations? Honestly, my honda ones have been working great up until recently, I might just change out to those unless someone has a better recommmendation

I personally went and got a pair of Honda OEM wiper refills. It came out to like $16, and they work just fine.

However, I have noticed that with no matter what kind of wiper blades I use they always leave a haze behind the wipe that slowly fades. It's quite annoying.

Try the 303 wiper treatments. Also I like bosch icons, and trico neoform

Sam, I have had good luck with the Bosch Icon's since they've come out.  Out of everything I have tried, those are the best performing and longest lasting.  All the others I tried didn't perform well or weren't manufactured well and didn't last longer than a month or two.  I have the Bosch Icon's on both cars sitting in my garage.  If I could get my company to let me put them on my work vehicle instead of the cheapest thing on the shelf, I would.

Jeff, good call on merging the threads.

Valeo has been on and off. I had one set that was great the second was awful.

Same thing here. I need another set soon and was contemplating switching to another type.  I might give the bosch's a try.

I've had consistency issues with Valeo's also.  I tend to change my wipers once a year.

Check out trico neoform if your looking for a slightly cheaper alternative to bosch. I'm using them now and they arre comprable to the bosch. Just happened to be free at the time.

Honestly, I've always just used the cheap ass Anco blades from Walmart. Definitely not the greatest but for 4 bucks a blade I can afford to replace them every 4 to 6 months. I'm probably going to try the Bosch Icons next. I've heard good things about them.

stopped by autozone today and took a look at all the wiper choices. The Icons look nice, but sit at the top of the price range. I think I may just buy stock oem honda ones (as those have worked very well for me). If I do go that route, do I just need new rubber inserts or is it best to just replace the whole thing?

If you still have the OEM blades, you can easily just get the inserts.

If you want just the blades, the part numbers are 76622-SDA-A01 for the driver's side and 76632-SDA-A01 for the passenger's side.  They shouldn't cost more than $8.  If you're ordering online, I would recommend that you get them from Auto Fair Honda.  Just call and ask for Ryan or Rich and let them know Tim from k20a referred you and you'll get taken care of.  I can also get you an email address for one of the guys in the parts department if you want to go that route.

Cool thanks for the info guys.I do still have the OEM blades, however the paint has started to fade. They are still functional, but do look a little ugly. How much does it cost to replace the whole thing?  Also, an email address would be great Tim!

Like Tim's post says, about $8 apiece.

Actually, I was saying that the rubber inserts should cost about $8 total.  The driver's side wiper part number is 76620-SDA-A01 and the passenger's side wiper part number is 76630-SDA-A01.  They should both cost about $24 total.  I'll PM you the email for Ryan at AFH to see what they can offer you for prices.

Totally not going with Bosch Icons again. The driver's side wiper leaves about a 12" diameter circle of unwiped space. I'll attempt cleaning the windshield and wipers better, but I'm fairly certain this issue is unavoidable.

OEM inserts here I come!

I've been using valeo's from tire rack with pretty decent results. I've had my pair for like the last 2 years and they still work. I should replace them soon though.

You removed that bracket on the underside of the DS arm?  I've seen that happen and in most cases removing the bracket fixes the gap problem.

I use Icons and I swear by em.  Last set lasted 3 years.  I just wipe down the actual blade every months to make sure its clean.

Hmm, I don't recall what bracket you're talking about... the old wiper comes off with the clip thing, and the new one goes on with its own clip thing. I'll have to take a look sometime. Where is this bracket located exactly?

About halfway on the wiper arm on the underside.  Its shaped like a U and is held on by a screw.

Other than the missed spot, these blades work very well. I think now that the issue is resolved, I'll consider sticking with this brand. Only time will tell for how long they'll last though.
