Cracked Windshield
«

So I'm on my way home for lunch today in the poring rain and i must have picked up a rock somewhere cause when i got home I had a nice new chip and crack in the windshield. I heard something strange on the ride home but thought nothing of it, mush have been the rock
Anyway I called Majestic Honda and they said it would be $125 for labor and like 4** something for the windshield. But the guy on the phone said the price is for a Honda windshield and an aftermarket one would be 1/2 the price. Now to my question, is there much difference between the Honda and aftermarket windshields? I never had to replace a windshield before so i don't know if the "Honda" name is the only difference between the two. Any advice would be appreciated!
MODS: I didn't know if this belonged here or in General Discussion. If i guessed wrong, my bad and just move it for me.

Let's get the main problem resolved first.
General Discussion
A place to talk about anything automotive or forum related that doesn't fit in any other category.

Exterior Styling & Maintenance
Exterior visual enhancements and general maintenance.
On the topic of your windshield, aftermarket and OEM shouldn't be much different. I'm guessing there may be a slight difference, but nothing that would be noticeable. You should call your insurance company first. Most insurance companies replace windshields for a lower price than your deductable. If your car was registered in MA, you'd have your windshield replaced for free because it's a "safety issue". Other glass replacement people will "fudge" the numbers in your favor so they bill your insurance company for more, and you pay less for the deductable.

I have an aftermarket windshield in my Accord and Gen still has the OEM. I can't tell the difference other then when I see Honda written on hers and the replacement company's name on mine (can't remember the brand). I say, if you have to pay out of pocket, go with the cheaper one.

I never thought there was a state that sucked more than MA.

I guess he has money to burn. I'd rather waste my money on parts that actually make my car faster, hookers, and drugs. Fucking amateurs. :

I have an aftermarket windshield, and there isn't much of a difference. The only thing that's different is that the sight glass thing for the VIN number is a little off, so you can't read the vin easily. It's not a bad thing. Just a little input for your decision.

RI is fucked... There are alot of things that are great about it but, then there is stupid shit like this. From what I've heard there are quite a few insurance companies that will not insure vehicles in MA because of the laws.

I've had many aftermarket windshields (I think I'm on #4 on this car) and there's no appreciable difference except cost.

There isn't much of a difference. As long as it has a DOT stamp on it, it should be good. Just make sure the top portion of the windshield is tinted as some people might not do that for you.

I have an aftermarket one on mine thanks to seagulls busting open crab shells. Can't tell the difference. Got it replaced free thanks to New York's glass stipulation for insurance. Probably one of the few good things about living in NY.
