Started my custom LED tail lights

using red/orange Lumileds leds (hpwt-dh00 bin j16,j25,j22 and h34)
2 rows of leds (120 leds per side. not including backup leds and turn signals)
bottom and top row for brake and running lights
middle row 20 leds will be used as rear foglights and come on with front fogs
Turn signal will be in middle of tail where its clear section for backup lights. sorta like some bmw 5 series have red led turn signals
that will be 48 leds on each side, running at max curent(60-70ma regulated with voltage regs(sharp)
backup lights will be on same section
they will have 54leds at 2 or 3 different angles.
there will be maybe 9 or so facing to sides like turn signals

here is pics of almost completed tail light
lens off

lens on

you can see where i put 35% tint film on and it didnt change brightness of leds

as you might notice middle strip(turn signal) is "wierd", not all leds are visible from same angle, that was done on purpose so turn signal would be visible from wider angle, there are 3 sections and they are mounted at 3 different angles

this what it should look like when both sides are done

comparison. same camera settings for both pics, left is dimmest setting, right is highest setting (60mA)

more pics
http://s157.photobucket.com/albums/t55/sy272004/Projects/LED%20taillights/

backup lights (possibly some blue and red leds for strobes)
54+ 5-chip leds (there will be about 9 or 12 leds facing to the sides)
backup lights gona be insane, thats about 1000 lumens per side (running at 3.8V and 90mA, or 874 at 3.6v at 90mA, thats asuming leds are about 75 Lumens/Watt)

mounted backup leds on board with 2 versions, not sure which ill go with.

question: what should creep4 be run at? on spec sheet it says 3.6v-4.6v
this will be for backup lights only (probably for strobes as well)

i heard ppl run them at 80mA, at what Fv (3.6 or 4v)?, they will be on sharp voltage reg so i guess max is 4V per string of 3

Looks good Misha.  I hope you can get those tail lights to have sequential turn signals.  That would be awesome.  I also love the lights in the bottom of your door panels.  I need to do that to my car.  I have about 40 superflux LED's that will hopefully find a home in my door panels one day.  Maybe even in my overhead dome light too.

not doing sequential turns as i decided. one reason is because turn signal leds are at 3 different angles so it will look wierd, but i will probably still order 4 sets of parts to make sequential controllers. it took me 3 hours yesterday just to figure out how to wire PWM and sharp regulator together, and thats with Daves schematics.

i might consider selling boards based on todays tests. i think they are too bright. and if thats the case then id rather use pure red leds since it will be bright enough with little different design for turn signal part

Are you using a PWM to dim them?

yes. combination of PWM and sharp 12V reg. pretty much same thing as Daves optidrive which i ordered yesterday since its easier to do then riging up what i did. and now that i think of it. he is using 15 step pot to controll brightness so it will be easier to use, im gona use what ihave now for tails for my front turn signals and make ptidrives for tails when they come in and i still need to order other supplies that are not included with optidrive
