Title: affordable DBW throttle mod (Adjustable Throttle Controller)
Post by: thisaznboi88 on May 13, 2010, 12:58:12 AM
I found this on acurazine and I wanted to show you guys. Just wondering who would actually be interested if someone produced a unit for our gen 7 (06-07) accord that are equip with drive by wire. I have been talking to one of their representative to try to either let me or someone else help test out a unit for them.

Basically that this units does it make the car feel more like a conventional cable throttle body. So I know a lot of people have been complaining about the lag on the DBW car when they have to smash it. This works similar like the Sprint Booster, but at half the cost.

So here is the original post. People voice your opinion so that the people are TWP know are you interested

*P.S Tim let me know if its okay to post, Just want to get some more mods for out community and help some people fix that "lag" they feel when they smash it*

I'm not against it being here man.  I'm just suspicious of an eBay product when the name brand ones don't work very well.

also, according to what I have read; the slave cylinder check valve delete will get rid of A LOT of the lag with the 6MT's...

Well I just got an email back. I will be testing it on my accord. I will post up review about it later. If what sherker55 said is true then I shouldn't feel to much different on my car. But I will do the best I can do have an unbias review.

Just to clearify. It will not give you HP. But it will make the throttle feel more like a traditional TB. It helps the car rev faster.

I think if you put it in eco mode you use less gas since your TB doesn't open all the way. But like I said I will test each mode and give a full detail report.

I don't know how the DBW on Accords feel, but on the TSX, it can be quite unbearable.  The greatest pain is that when the clutch is fully disengaged, the throttle pedal becomes unresponsive.  Rev-matching therefore, is much different than with a cable throttle.

I tried the Sprint Booster (for twice the price; yipes!) in hopes that this would eliminate the DBW feel.  It certainly did make the throttle more responsive, but only when the clutch was engaged.  In fact, DAYTA described on tsxclub.com, it makes the pedal feel like an on/off switch.  The particular unit in the OP has different optional settings, so maybe users can find a good balance, but I found the amount of response the Sprint Booster gave...  well, it didn't feel like a cable throttle anyway.  It just felt like a hypersensitive DBW.

Also, as I mentioned, the throttle was only more responsive with the clutch was engaged.  When it was disengaged, the throttle was once again, unresponsive.

If Honda has made the DBW in the Accords different from the TSX, and it responds nicely when the clutch is disengaged, then this should be a pretty nice mod.  Otherwise, I'm skeptical that these ETC's would perform any different from the Sprint Booster.  These companies claim that their products make the car feel more like a traditional cable throttle.  A more accurate description is, these products make the throttle more sensitive, when the clutch is engaged.

For AT drivers, I think this mod would be fantastic :D  MT drivers may have mixed feelings.

I wrote a DIY and review for anyone who's interested:  http://www.tsxclub.com/forums/1st-gen-engine/42796-sprint-booster-v1-diy-review.html

The accord v6 6mt is not too bad. But I still feel that there is something lacking. I can't really put my finger on it. The power is great but there just something missing.

As I was testing out this unit the Displayed unit died. Sooo WACK. email the vendor to send me another prototype and to send me an extended harness

I've really heard nothing good about DBW throttle boosters.  The people that I've talked to that bought them said they were a waste of money.  I don't know the specifics, so they could have been cheap.  It looks like the one you posted may be specific to Subarus, but I didn't really read too much of that thread.  Is it Subaru specific, or is it universal?

Hi Tim

Yes, it was specific but only the wiring harness that was specific but the controller itself, was universal for other cars. I faintly remember that there was a plug that had both a male and female type plug that goes in between the dash harness and the gas pedal.

The one I have is the same kit that thisaznboi88 has but with a different harness.
