Abailey4 (Derrick) has also painted his grille and his body shop did a nice job color matching it to the body color. I had my grille painted from a guy from another forum so I will ask him what he used.

im not interested in color matching but instead want it to be black to go with all of the other black on the front end. fog lights, lower grill, soon to be blackhoused headlights, etc.

did you remove the emblem first or just mask it? did you use any kind of clear coat to prevent chipping or would it be safe without it?

You would be better suited to remove the emblem.

i masked the emblem which didnt take too long. i masked it 2 different times; one for the H and another for the black gaps if that made sense. i also used a layer of clear coat. no damage so far from what i can see. its up to you if you want to use a clear coat or not. theres a rare chance a pebble could hit the grill.

^ I wish I could say that cuz I've had a few jump up and smack the grill. Mine has a couple chip spots on the inside of the H emblem from those rare pebbles. But then again just about every road in northern VA has construction goin on.

i would take derricks thought into consideration. if your going to find a lot of pebbles in the road and you follow close to someone, a pebble could hit. id suggest using about 3-4 light coats of what you want to use. then maybe 2-3 of light clear coats.
when i did mine, the clear coat kinda brightened up my grill by 1 shade. just a little side note.

i cleaned it with rubbing alcohol for sure. i dont remember if i scuffed it up a little bit. but do clean it up regardless of any paint project. dont want any blemishes or anything sticking out
