so i was trying to install the short shift i have, and pushed it down to open it and it sounded like something dropped. and now it wont shut.

It won't shut all the way or it won't move at all. In the photo it doesn't look like the rubber lining is sitting flat which makes it seem like the piece under it isn't clipped in all the way. Try to reseat the plastic piece.

You probably don't have "not an ashtray" clipped in all the way.

Not a big deal I'd really like to see a post to see if this is actually what it was. That thing was a pain the first couple times I pulled it out now it's all loose (comes out easier).

You might have to pull it all back out. Take a look at the plastic clips in the very bottom and see what condition they are in.

didnt know you can pull it out... ill have to try that. its just the two screws by the shifter right and then pull?

Nope. Stick your fingers under the Not an Ashtray piece and you'll feel how it cups down. Just push up on that to pop out the cup. Those screws are part of what you need to take off to get the center console apart.
