Title: Control Arm Bushing Question
Post by: accordguy04 on May 24, 2011, 10:29:59 AM
I have a question to throw out to you guys and see if you have an answer.
When I was puttin on my lightweight crank pulley I noticed that the front bushing on my front control arm is shot, the front control arm is pretty much just floating there on the front section... my question is: can I just replace that bushing or am I goin to have to replace the whole control arm?  And is it that hard to do?  I have pretty good knowledge, I changed out my shocks and springs last summer.  What do you guys recommend?  Thanks.

Sincerely,
Teh N00bie

Number 8.  Oh good, looks like I can just replace the bushing. :)

Well, I'll prolly take it somewhere anyway, I'm pickin up a TL Front Sway Bar this weekend.  So I'll just have them throw that in while its up in the air.  Thanks for the pic Mike.

You can replace the bushings but the old ones would need to pressed out and press the new ones in.

Like Steve said, you will need to take the control arm off. Then you will need a press to press out the bushings. I've done a few a know a few tricks up my sleeve to get them in and out.  ;)

Alright thanks guys.  I already ordered the part and I'll just take it in sometime next week and have a garage do it, and install my TL Front sway bar while they got it up in the air.  LEss headache for me. :)

Did your bushing being gone cause you any issues?

none, the polyurethane bushings are a direct fitment in terms of size. bushing kit comes with the needed lubricants.

Only issue was that every once in a while I heard the clanking of the control arm, coming from only being firmly connected at two out of three points

Where did you get them?  I'm planning to replace my LCA bushings shortly, and would like these if they aren't too expensive.

I've heard of superpro making bushings for our chassis. On v6p there was a discussion about middle of last year that I just revived today. I'm waiting to hear back on what the impressions were.

4 separate sets? Are they different bushings or are they all the same sets but different durometers?

Thread revival! I took a look at my compliance bushings today... I think I'll just go ahead and get some new ones from AFH. I don't think those cracks are supposed to be there. And I'm not sure why the passenger side is so much more stretched out like that.

I just went thru a transmission swap. When removing the LCA's, I noticed the bushes were somewhat deteriorated. Decided to just replace the both LCA's rather than going thru aggravation of doing the bushes. I think they were about $65 apiece.
Had enough aggravation going on w/trans...

It took me all of like five minutes to replace the compliance bushings after the LCA's were out. But then again, I have access to a press, so that made it like 1000 times easier.

Having a press is a big plus. I actually have a tool that I bought years ago to replace the trailing arm bushings on my Integra. The aggravation would come from trying to FIND that tool, and I'm not sure it would even work on our LCA's...
So I figured $65 per side wasn't too bad, by the time I bought bushings, then tried to change them out...
Like I said, had my hands full with transmission swap.
