Screeching/high pitch sound while accelerating

Hey guys, this morning while accelerating, my car started making a high pitch screeching sound and it stops when I shift into the next gear but it starts again until I shift. It will pretty much start at 2,000 rpm and up. It just started doing this today and does not sound normal. Could anyone tell me what it could possibly be? It's a 2006 v6 6 speed with 87k miles.

Sounds like a serpentine belt slippage. Check your belts for wear and replace if necessary.

I had the same issue on my other car, changed the belt, still did it. Come to find out it was the tensioner pulley. GL

I did some additional research on other cars and as well and you may be right. I just bought this car. The last owner may not have changed it. Thanks for the help slipkord. Btw, how much did it cost to have your belt replaced?

I don't remember, been sometime since I replaced it. $20 most likely

Sounds like a belt to me.  Shouldn't be more than around $20 or so.  Change it yourself and save some money.

Locally I've found the belt to actually be cheaper at the dealer as fucked up as that sounds.

Just out of curiosity guys, how much longer can I go until it's mandatory? I won't have any time to do it until Tuesday and would you guys recommend aftermarket vs oem?
