Title: Taming the rasp
Post by: Silver Bullet on July 17, 2012, 03:06:53 AM
Hey guys, for those of you with PCD's & catback exhausts, what resonator did you use to tone down the rasp? I went on Azine but not really any detailed posts or videos of what people used.

I plan on getting an Apexi WS2 catback exhaust. I have RV6 V3 PCD's & XLR8 V2 J-Pipe. I only found one video on youtube which was a coupe with Greddy Evo2 & 18" resonator. I'm curious as to how it'll sound with a 22" and 30". Anyone with either of these setups have any input or videos?

I have a Borla catback on mine with RV6 V2 PCDs.  No rasp here but thats because the Borla system has a resonator already... And a midmuffler... And two more mufflers... :(  I absolutely love the tone of the Borla, but there are times that I wish it was a tad louder.

The resonator ive seen recommended the most over on v6p is the Magnaflow.

I have a magnaflow custom 2.5 catback with pcd and a jpipe with a high flow cat. I love the sound of mine, but I have a midrange rasp 3-4k

Accordguy04- I think it's really quiet because of the mid muffler. From what I'm reading a bigger resonator will tone down a lot of the rasp while the mid muffler will just make it quiet.

Duck - so you're not running any resonator?

I'd get a Magnaflow mid muffler. I have a 30" Magnaflow muffler before the split to the 2 Magnaflow mufflers. For a 3" exhaust on a K24 it's quiet with a deep yet mellow tone.

I'd imagine with a 30" it may hinder performance, which would defeat the purpose of an exhaust. I'm confused now, I thought a resonator and mid muffler were two different things.

They're basically the same thing. The purpose of a resonator and muffler are to reduce noise. Trust me, my current exhaust did not hurt the performance of my motor. When I got this system it improved.
