Title: pump crank seal?
Post by: slipkord on March 27, 2009, 12:03:20 PM
well, my wifes accord is in the shop, the service tech told me it was the pump crank seal, I assume its the front crankshaft seal? Honda quoted me 250, but I know they have to tear apart the front of the motor but damn!

I noticed it was leaking oil the other day and things were coated in oil, hasn't lost any oil pressure but has been like this for awhile, 131k miles on her, not sure why this part failed.......6iat mad at myself for not catching it sooner anyways, first post FTW!

$250 sounds about right for that job at a dealer.

It was 200 for labor and 15 for the part. Its really 238 but getting a new belt out on while they've got it opened up.

Yeah like you said above it is a pretty intensive job, and I would imigine that there rate is about $95 an hour.

That is actually cheap for a dealer, it is basically the same labor as doing a timing belt.

Yeah that is cheap.  My dealership told me it was like a $600 job but they ended up getting it covered under Honda Care.

This really doesn't belong in General Discussion.  I'd move it to the appropriate forum, but I don't know if your wife has a J30 or K24.
