Title: Cleaning Melted Rubber from Pulleys Post by: CYANiDE on March 28, 2010, 02:01:19 AM Due to a small PS fluid leak I had a few months back, my belt came in contact with it (fluid is pretty warm) and thus melted some of the rubber from the belt which ended up sticking onto the pulleys. Car is getting to be annoying loud on idle because of the belt.
I'm looking to swap out the belt but also want to clean up the mess on the pulleys. I don't mind taking them out to clean them, but if I can use something else (maybe spray something on the existing belt to loosen the rubber gunk and just wipe off? Any ideas/suggestions welcome. It'll be worth a shot. Maybe I'll get lucky and cleaning it will get rid of the annoying sound I've been getting, haha. That would be too lucky.

Doesn't sound like a bad idea. I've also heard of using Simple Green on them. I'm just going to try parts cleaner first, and see if that does the trick.
