Title: How To: Oil Change [J30]
Post by: MyNameIsThien on November 19, 2009, 09:37:11 PM
Here will be a DIY on doing an oil change on your 7th Gen Accord V6.

Tools:

17mm wrench

or

17mm socket (6 point prefered)
Ratchet (your choice of 3/8 or 1/2)
Oil filter pliers or wrench
Funnel
Rags

Steps:

1: Open hood and take off oil cap, place it in a safe position.
2: Lift car on either a lift, ramp, or however you would like to do so.
3: Use your 17mm wrench or 17mm socket and ratchet combo to loosen the drain plug.
4: Drain oil in a suitable container or drain.
5: Using your oil filter pliers or wrench, loosen the oil filter and make sure the excess oil falls into a container or drain.
6: After oil has been drained, hand thread the drain plug back in all the way and tighten with your wrench or ratchet/socket.
7: Use new oil and lube the oil filter and hand tighten the oil filter on.
8: Double check your work, clean any leftover oil, and proceed to lower the vehicle.
9: Place funnel in the oil filler hole and proceed to add your oil of your choice.
10: Put oil cap back on, start the car, and let the car run for 5 or so seconds to cycle the oil.
11: Check your oil level, close your hood, and call it day.
12: If this is a do at home oil change, place oil in a container and take it to your nearest oil recycling center (IE: Autozone, Wal-mart, etc.)

Good info on the simplest maintenance to ensure a long lasting engine. I was talking with some guys at work yesterday and found someone willing to take my used oil and put it to good use for free. Maybe it's time I get back into this and stop paying someone else.
