07 TL-S cams
«

07 TL-S cams fit with no issue. They are lighter and with more duration than the stock cams, because they are lighter this will help with reving in that they will lower rotational mass, not as much as a lightend crank pully, but every little bit helps. There are also no issues with valve clearence. Another valvetrain piece of intrest from the 07 TL-S are the exhaust valve springs, they are about 15% stronger than the stock springs, this will help alot with over rev valve bending since in that scenario it is the exhaust valves that take the beating.
Observations----
1. stock cams are 6lbs 2oz- TL-S 5lbs 1oz
2. .3mm taller vtec intake lobe and definatly higher duration (don't have the equipment to mesure properly).

Hope to see something filling in that "place holder" spot. Considering that you're a mod here and that nobody else is posting any J Series performance info, there's no need to have a place holder thread.

This will be one of my projects to do. Thanks for the information Paul. Maybe, I have to put TL Type S exhaust valve springs to my list.
On a side note: Paul I have the same blow gun. LOL

Nice info Paul. Is the difference only on the VTEC intake lobe? Are the other lobes identical? I'm guessing you used a micrometer to measure the amount of lift. What would you use to measure the duration?

To mesure duration you would use a degree wheel, a good one is about $500 and no I did not see any visible difference in the non-vtec lobes. Also the TL-S cams are forged which is why they can get away with being hollow.

Nice write-up, Paul! I'd like to see a before/after dyno on this. What kind of EMS would you recommend for the cam swap? I know you couldn't get away with this if it were a K series, but I know J series have some tricks up their sleeve.

Actually the only REAL tuning I have found for the Js is the AEM FIC, gives independant injector control rather than just screwing with sensor data and has the O2 skewing to keep the ECU from de-tuning, just wish it had timing advance, to can only retard timing at this point. The J ECU will adjust to them without tuning after a while, but of course tuning is needed to get the full potential out of them. All of the installs I have done so far have included engine displacement changes 3.3L-3.5L-3.6L, so there are no clear "just cams" dynos out there yet.

Well, come on down, I can knock it out in a day, you are about 2.5-3 hours away from me, if you know WorldOnOneFinger, he came down for his J33 engine build and then latter ended up replacing the heads on his car to bump the comression from 10:1 to 11:1, was able to complete the full head swap in 10 hours, just doing the cams is about a 4-6hr job.
