Here is a link from fastbrakes.com, just wondering if anyone has tried this mod yet, or heard of anyone that has.

LOL, I made the first set and posted pics on V6P, the next day they had thier kit listed on thier website, wonder where they got the idea.

The link isn't working for me. They might have taken it down. The only thing they have listed for or cars are Wilwood brakes.

is this mod similar to the legend gs mod? will we need the rotors and brackets in addition to the calipers?

I believe that Cham has an aftermarket BBK for the TL on his car right now.  I'll have to confirm this the next time I talk to him.

Yes this will require brackets, calipers, and rotors.

They're about $357 each, new. A bit expensive but probably worth it given they are OEM quality.

Maybe we can get Paul to Fab some brackets for a small group of us. Paul if you could please chime in, and give us a parts list sense you have done this before. I would really rather give you the money than anyone else.

Post by: Blackhawk on April 22, 2009, 10:15:09 AM
Paul sent me a quote via PM for brackets and all required hardware. The price is not bad, I just need to factor in caliper, rotor, and pad costs. Might equal to the price of an aftermarket big brake kit.

Title: Re: RL 4 Piston Caliper Mod
Post by: NVA-AV6 on April 22, 2009, 10:47:11 AM
The costs are about the same a a wilwood kit, but the RL calipers are much beefier as well as the rotors being rotora 12.8"

they couldnt really get it 2 work, it didnt fit right

they were using 350z rotors which were 2 thick u couldnt fit the caliper once the pads were on there

paul installed the RL's on my car... theyre working well.. i paired them to rotora 13" rotors.

i picked up the calipers for 200 shipped on ebay.. grinded off the acura logo and powdercoated them, then picked up EBC yellowstuff pads. so far so good!

i believe paul still has the caliper bracket measurements for anyone looking to go this route

Looks good.  Makes me want to ditch my Legend calipers and get these instead.

Post by: timot_one on July 05, 2010, 04:01:48 PM
Just an update on this one.  I ended up getting the RL calipers Adi had and the brackets Paul made for him.  I have the exact same set up as kSchwiggy has.  Problem is that they don't clear my wheels.  I had to take them off and put my Legend calipers and rotors back on so I could drive my car.  It looks like I will need to get spacers for the spokes of my Buddy Club's.  I'm also going to sell my TL's since the diameter is too small to clear the calipers.

Tim what rotors did you end up going with?  I'm thinking about ditching my wilwood kit for these.  Nothing but problems with the wilwood kit so far.

Title: Re: RL 4 Piston Caliper Mod
Post by: Mike on July 19, 2010, 11:11:55 AM
Pretty sure Tim's Rotors are Rotora. RL calipers on Tim's car looking SICK! I saw them Saturday night they are fucking huge!

Title: Re: RL 4 Piston Caliper Mod
Post by: timot_one on July 19, 2010, 11:21:08 AM
Sorry to hear that man.  I know Paul has the Willwood kit and likes it.  I have the Rotora rotors (don't know the part numbers or fittment off hand).  I'm not really into the slotted design and will end up replacing the rotors with blanks when I have time to research and find some.

Title: Re: RL 4 Piston Caliper Mod
Post by: ikethegreat on July 19, 2010, 01:17:11 PM
Do you know what size they are?

Paul's wilwood kit is much better then mine.  His came with the older larger caliper where as mine came with the newer slimmer calipers which are a POS.  Plus he had his own mounting bracket whereas I had to use the shitty one Fastbrakes sent me and 6-8 spacers to get it to fit.  The front rotors just warped and that is the last straw for me.  If anyone sees a pair of 05+ RL calipers on ebay for cheap, let me know!

Title: Re: RL 4 Piston Caliper Mod
Post by: timot_one on July 19, 2010, 01:22:53 PM
It seems that the calipers are solid, but the brackets and rotors suck.  I'd consider bringing your business to Paul since he's local enough to you.  I'm sure he could machine a better mounting bracket for you and could give you a good suggestion on better rotors.  He's a good resource to have locally.  You may end up saving a few bucks keeping your calipers and just getting better components to compliment them.

Title: Re: RL 4 Piston Caliper Mod
Post by: ikethegreat on July 20, 2010, 08:37:43 AM
He actually installed my Wilwood BBK.  I was going to have him build me a custom mount to replace the shitty one that came in the kit but recently my drivers side caliper started making this creaking noise whenever I press the brake.  Then my rotors warped.  I kinda just want to get rid of it all and start over with the RL kit but who knows.

Title: Re: RL 4 Piston Caliper Mod
Post by: Mike on July 20, 2010, 10:16:57 AM
creaking noise could be because the shitty bracket is moving.

Title: Re: RL 4 Piston Caliper Mod
Post by: timot_one on July 20, 2010, 11:23:30 AM
Yeah.  I would side with Mike on that one too.  My point is that you could probably save a few dollars by keeping your calipers and maybe even rebuilding them if they are messed up.  You're still going to end up replacing your rotors and bracket anyway.  I know that Willwood makes good stuff, so don't let the quality of the fastbrakes components sway your decision and empty your wallet.

Hey Guys I happened to secure an 05+ RL brake kit. The thing is I was going to put them on my civic, It has the fastbrakes kit w/ it. I know this kit was made to fit civics 88-00, but I'll have to run a 15-20mm spacer to have them clear the rim I have chosen to use. So instead of selling them, I now, would like to know

where can I get this bracket & rotor to fit our accord?

I am looking for potentially this biggest rotor slotted & dimpled/just slotted?

any help would be appreciated.

TIA,
Joel

Paul can make you the Bracket (NVA_AV6) not sure about the rotors.

12.8 inch rotora rotors is what Paul said else where in this thread.

I believe my kit has the 13" rotors.

Title: Re: RL 4 Piston Caliper Mod
Post by: JDMJNKY on August 18, 2010, 06:10:45 PM
I kinda figured they might work. I read this thread then I talked to Fastbrakes today and they mentioned that unless I had a 2pc rotor things would not line up properly. So my question is can someone measure the Rotara rotor thickness?

Again TIA,
Joel

If you want my advice, I would pay Paul to machine the brackets for you and then get whatever rotors he suggests.  My brackets were made by Paul and they're perfect.

Paul recommends '05 350z /w Brembo rotors.   His milling machine is down right now so it may be a bit till he can make the brackets, still waiting on mine to be made.

Yes sir! I understand! Paul did reply.....so Hopefully I can stack some more money, and get the brackets from him & rotors online  to implement my calipers too!

No can I add a topic here? what are you guys doing for the rear upgrade? and is anyone changing master cylinders or any other components when upgrading?

Title: Re: RL 4 Piston Caliper Mod
Post by: MyNameIsThien on August 25, 2010, 12:31:19 AM
I suggest getting Paul's rear BBK upgrade bracket. It extends your stock caliper, and you use the 03 Honda Pilot 12.2 rotors and whatever pads you want. Going with just a front BBK should be OK on your master but doing a rear BBK as well is overkill on your master and brake booster.

Title: Re: RL 4 Piston Caliper Mod
Post by: JDMJNKY on August 25, 2010, 01:53:34 AM
Well my original plan was to go 11.3" In the rear iirc. If I were to choose both is there an upgrade to either BB or Mstr Cyl?

edit: damn Iphone posts

I actually have the RL's in the front and Pilot rotors in the rear.  So far I've been okay, but it's only been about 6 weeks.  I haven't upgraded the master cylinder or booster yet.  I haven't heard of anyone else changing out their master cylinder or booster yet.  What are other guys using Thien?

I've have my Wilwood kit in the front and Pilot rotors in the rear for almost a year with no need to upgrade anything...

Title: Re: RL 4 Piston Caliper Mod
Post by: timot_one on September 26, 2010, 03:58:32 AM
I did mine all at once and got the kit from someone second hand that changed his mind on installing it.  I know the rear rotors aren't that much if you don't get super expensive "racing" rotors.  I think Paul's brackets are like $120.  My guess is that you can do the rear upgrade for around $200.  I wish I was made of money too.  That would change a lot of things for me.

Title: Re: RL 4 Piston Caliper Mod
Post by: JDMJNKY on September 26, 2010, 10:58:27 PM
No I loved slotted rears though! My fronts will be slotted, so if this kit clears my wheels I will proceed, If not gotta go another route. After the front success I will save for the rear & slotted rotors.

I did my rear setup for about $300.

you have to space the bracket from the knukle and also space the caliper from the brackets using the washers the brackets come with...you should have four washers for each side, two to space the bracket and two to space the calipers from the bracket..
