I noticed a few days ago that my wifes CM had way too much movement in the wiper arms. I could grab one of the arms and move it up and down a good 12 inches or so. I believe it has something to do with whatever controls how far each way the arm moves. What is this called? And WTF caused it to go out? 134k+ shit is starting to break. I guess it had to happen sometime....

I believe Honda quoted me $250 for parts/labor - fkn rediculous man. So I might just replace myself. I'm hoping to find one at a junkyard, but do I really want to try to hunt for days or just pay the extra money and get a new part from Honda?

This is definitly a safety issue. I'm extremely glad it hasnt rained in days or won't in another two weeks. So I have time. Has anyone had issues like this?

Thx

It is called the trapeze and you do not want to buy a used one, it will be a pita to replace since you have to remove the black plastic grill, but it is far from impossible.

Here is the parts breakdown in the link below...

http://www.bkhondaparts.com/billkay/jsp ... =&hidIrno=

part 10 is the whole assembly for $119, but I would first remove the arms and try moving the stud around and see if the trunons are lose or if it is probably just a bad arm connection, in which case, just get 11 and 12.

Thanks.

I would assume since they quoted me that much that it'd be part 10. I'll root around like you said and see if its just a bad connection arm.

Did you have a recall for the wiper blade motor housing. Maybe, I might be exposing my ignorance, when they fix that they could some how fix that at the same time. It could save you some labor or maybe they would just do it for free.

There was a recall on the wiper motor, that has already been replaced, I might just let Honda do it

Haha, trapeze, I like that one!  We call them "wiper trannies".  You can do it yourself but you might want to PM one of us for explicit instructions because it can get messy if you do it wrong...replace the entire unit as a whole...it's not worth bothering for just the two arms...

Is there no adjustment on the wipers?

We took the wifeys car today and of course it rained. The wipers are going too far both directions, what a FPITA. Taking it to Honda to fix next week.

You're better off having Honda fix it man.  If there's a recall, let them do the work.

There is indeed a recall but that's only for the wiper motor itself.

Adjustment is a tricky thing...here's what it's like.  Whenever you pull the wiper tranny and related innards out, you first cycle the wipers and watch them stop.  From that point you remove the wiper arms and set them aside.  Then after removing the innards, you mark the position of the arms by the connecting plate with the little triangle on it with a crayon.  After that, you do your business with replacing whatever you need to, then you line up the marks when you go to put the motor back in, tighten everything down, reinstall the wiper arms in the rest positions, and voila...back to where they need to be...if not, then you cycle the motor with the arms off again, and reinstall.
