Just go open engine bay. Say it's for additional cooling.
Kinda like this...
Long story short, my mom backed into my car and I needed to replace the hood. In the middle of the job I had to run somewhere really quick and I didn't have any other vehicle available at the time. I got some pretty weird looks on that drive.

Haha!! That's awesome!!! I could imagine the looks. I too would use hood pins. One of my good friends had a CF hood where the latch broke on him. Roof caved in and windshield broke.

those with CF hoods: are you using hoodpins?
I've been thinking about getting one and can't decide whether to get hoodpins also...
I would actually use hoodpins with a CF hood for some additional security.
OR.... Buy a quality cf hood..

That would be Ben that had his hood latch break, and the hood flipped up smashing his windshield. I ran a VIS CF hood on my car for 8 years without any problems. I didn't install hood pins, but I did only use 1 hood shock. Using both hood shocks will cause the hood to lift up above the fender about an inch or so.

I ran my car hoodless once. It was quite fun, because the S/C whine was uber loud. Thing was screaming down the road freaking people out or thinking a cop was coming.

I wouldn't. I don't like showing off.

I recall someone back in the day had an issue with his hoodlatch on his cf hood and it ended up flipping up when he was driving on the highway. It smashed his windshield and roof in. I'm not sure if it was a "cheap" cf hood that he was using, or if it was a failure due to something else. I would actually use hoodpins with a CF hood for some additional security.
theres been a lot of stories on the Web about people not installing Hood Pins and having it fly up and cracking the Windshield
i've never had a CF Hood without getting Hood Pins installed
if installed correctly, they should not produce any additional spider cracking and definitely there for a reason
