Title: which coilover and y???
Post by: 03accord on February 14, 2009, 03:46:29 PM
hey like the titlte states which coilover is the best and y in ur opinion??
buddy club n+spec
tein ss
tein ss-p
tein flex (only avail for tsx but fit our cm 5,6,7,8)
k sport pro
skunk2

now the reason im starting this is because i will in the market for new setup with in a year im guessing. im currently on tein ss. love it but hate it at the same time. what i dislike is the fact that are a bit soft for me at it's stiffest setting. love the adjustabillty factor of them, overall great setup. i would buy another set,  but with the pillowball mount for sure. im looking into buddy club and other's because they lower and raise the height on the shock body and not affecting the spring and shock travel. the teins dont do that unless i go with flex.
so please help me make up my mind for when i need to buy new coilovers.
thanks in guys

I have a set of Tein Basics and I'm very happy with the ride.  If you're looking for a stiffer ride than the SS, then you probably wouldn't like them.  I also considered the Tein Type Flex's over the Mono Flex's.  The Mono Flex's have a higher spring rate.  You may want to pay attention to the spring rates of the suspensions you're considering also.

I'd stay with tein. I've never read a bad thing about them.

Tein offers a rebuild package. check into it. you can get them revalved to match your desired spring rate, pick the height of your spring and MAYBE even ask for a shorter rod. That way you'll have EXACTLY what you want

i completely forgot, I don't know if they still do that but you could inquire a form to fill out with the desired dimensions of yoru suspension and they'll do the math for you

I've been using SBC Coilovers from eBay. They are Megan racing Generics. Treated me good so far for a sleeve over system. I am running mine on HFP struts and they go really low. I will post a product review after 1 year from install.

Tein SS-p's with EDFC is they way I'll probably go next time.  I got the Basics because of the price(before the price hike) and because it was primarily for Ashley and she didnt need anything other than a drop. For my own personal driving style I need a lil more adjustment.

I'm currently in the market for suspension, and wish I had gotten into modding my accord before this "Price Hike" the tein stuff is killer expensive now!

^^^This is true. Sort of like what happened to Greddy and Comptech. I saw a Greddy Evo exhaust that used to go for $550 shipped, at $1469 shipped on eBay.

I hate it I may go with the full HFP suspension just because of the low price

The shocks are bulletproof but you will soon move on from the springs and get something else. the 1" subtle drop only keeps you happy for so long.

I can get the full set up for 600 I'm hard pressed to find anything near that number plus i'm pretty sure this is the only option that won't give them a way to argue with a warranty claim on the tranny etc. Also it doesn't require the use of a camber kit right?

Might as well get the Neuspeed Supercup kit. $600 shipped and you get 4 Koni Shocks and a free set of Neuspeed Race Springs.

But I will need the camber kit, and IT's not a honda part so opens me to warranty issues.

Yeah but there's no problem that could be caused by the suspension so that shouldnt interfere with any warranty claims. The only time they'll void your warranty because of aftermarket parts is if the aftermarket parts themselves had something to do with the issue at hand.

I've heard horror stories about people that have been lowered and had tranny issues. They try to say it's related because of the change in the geometry of the suspension putting a differet amount of tension on the axle's. I know that its BS but, I'd like to avoid the argument.

Title: Re: which coilover and y???
Post by: Blackhawk on February 19, 2009, 11:29:52 AM
I can see where this would be an issue for extremely lowered vehicles that have high negative camber characteristics (unlike our Accords). However, the design of our suspension is a godsend. Our front end only cambers up to 1.5 degrees with a 3" drop so it's not really a big deal.

I agree but, I don't want to fight with the warranty company.

Yeah I hear ya. And of course it all depends on the dealership too. Cuz we've taken our car to the Honda dealer with every 4 banger bolton as well as all the other stuff we have on there and have never had a problem.  They even fixed a leaking crank seal which shoulda came out of my pocket but they got Honda care to cover it as well as a faulty throttle body and that was with the TSX IM and CAI being on there. So it all depends....

I'm also getting the HFP kit for $600 from H and A. An appox.one inch drop is all I need for my 18's since I share it with my dum dum dum...

wife

Hey Victor you've seen how low my car is lol you know the flex will be more than enough for what you want! lol

just for everyone I have the tein type flex from a Euro R I love it easily one of the best suspension i have ever rode on my friends have function and form and etc i Prefer to pay at bit more and have a really high quality setup plus I could get them rebuilt

I didn't think they made the Type Flex for the CL7.  They only make the Mono Flex for the CL7 from what I've seen.  Where did you find Type Flex's for a CL7 anyway?  That's not exactly part of the North American market.

^^yep they do make them when i get a chance i snap a pic of the rear cause the label is facing out towards the wheel i enjoy my 14k front and 9k rear spring rates :) and they were imported here to Canada by the original owner of the set

Hmmm.  Sounds like they're the exact same as the Type Flex for the TSX.  Considering other Tein applications for the Accord Euro R list the CL7 and CL9 chassis code.  I bet they just re-branded/re-named the TSX Type Flex's.

why is the neuspeed cup kit soo cheap??? how good are they?

Title: Re: which coilover and y???

The Neuspeed SuperCup kit is not a coilover suspension.  It's a spring/shock combo.  It's just a really good deal though.  You basically get a free set of springs when you buy Koni Yellows.

If your looking to get even lower than you are now you may want to give K sport a look. I'm not sure of the quality but, I've heard that can go extremly low.

i've noticed here in Boston acouple of J series 7th Gen both coupe and sedans with Tein Basic sit lower in the rear then my K Series. Same coilover setup installed at the same location with no modification done to them(i.e. cut coils). But they both riding on 20's while i'm on 19, maybe that could be the issue

Title: Re: which coilover and y???

It may be the fact that the tire is a little larger giving a lower look.  It could also be the weight of the J30 compared to the K24.  Those numbers on Tein's website seem to just be a general statement instead of concrete numbers.

that shouldn't have an effect on the ride height of the rear.

Maybe he was only looking at the front end.
