Unless you've been living under a rock recently, 3D printing has become pretty popular. I actually just built one myself (Bukobot v1), so I thought I'd create this thread to share ideas for things that can be printed.

I'd totally be willing to print stuff for you guys. I got tired of browsing through Thingiverse (which mainly has gimmicky stuff - I want practical things that I can use), so shoot me any and all ideas that you guys can come up with and I'll print and send it to you for a miniscule fee to cover the materials.

Currently I can print two kinds of plastic: PLA, which is very strong but brittle, and ABS, which is more flexible but harder to break. And yes, the strip club LED lighting was an add-on.  Cool

Wow that is pretty awesome.  How much did it cost you to build?

Jeff, I need a 3D printed heart. Has to be functional. Can you make that happen?

That's awesome Jeff. We need to talk. I'm sure there are a few things that I would need.

3d printing is great for making custom enclosures for electronic projects. It doesn't have an excellent strength tho, because of the layers not really bonding together. We printed a custom plenum for our Formula student car and the runners broke over the vibration. structural bracket and stuff can be made but you need them to be beefy enough so it doesn't break

I do happen to have some gun models...

The total cost was around $700-750. There were about 16 of us at work who purchased parts together to save on shipping. The kit itself is about $1400 if you don't want to buy parts separately.

And Z, I do have some black filament, so I could print you a custom heart just for you... Tongue I kid.

I use Solidworks to design whatever I want, then use software called Repetier Host to slice the part and control the printer.
