Car jerks at highway speeds
«
on:

This has been happening for the past two winters. Whenever it get cold (below 40), and whenever I drive on the highway my car sometimes suddenly jerks. At first I though it was a rough down shift, but my speed and RPMs stay constant. Then I checked my tranny fluid which was a little low, so i changed it and made sure it was near the max, that didn't solve the problem either.
Any thoughts?

To go along with what Paul is asking, any strange vibrations? Are the roads slick at all? Possibly black ice since you mention it only happens in winter. I'm asking about the roads because my car jerks/ shimmys whenever I hit a patch of ice at highway speeds.

It does it on completely clean roads too, but the first time that I noticed it was snowing. And the only vibrations that I feel are on my steering wheels from warped rotors.

Totally clean roads or clean that you can see? I'm still hung up on black ice for this.

Clean that I can see I guess. It's usually during the night too. You think it's just black ice?

Very good possibility. The last couple of times my car did it was during the day when I was coming back from picking up my exhaust. I saw the shit on the highway only in the underpasses where the sun couldn't melt it. As soon as I hit it, I got the shimmy.

Le us know what the outcome is. If you get the chance, next time it does it note your location and see if it's around the same area as before. Also, if it's safe, pull over immediately and inspect the road. I'll put money down saying it's ice.
