Foam Gun?
«
on:
September 23, 2009, 11:41:20 AM »
I'm looking for a good foam gun but I want to keep the price under $100. It definitely needs to hook up to my hose, not a power washer. I've been looking at these:
http://autogeek.net/auqufofogun.html
http://autogeek.net/pifofowagun.html
http://autogeek.net/woqufofogun.html
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000Y190WE/ref=nosim/autopia-forum-20
They all look pretty similar. Any recommendations?

Try hitting up Skizot or Deepgloss I know they both employ a foam gun when doing there washes so they may be the best to ask.

Those that work off of a standard hose are just okay from what I have seen. The real thing is powered by a pressure washer and produces serious foam (but costs serious money). I haven't used either just stating what I have read and from pictures I've seen.

I have the Gilmour one that I got from Scott. To be honest, it's better than nothing. I would recommend that you just save your money and buy a pressure washer and get a foam gun for that instead. Like Rick said, they produce foam and are a good chunk of money. They are a lot better than the foam guns you are looking at though.

There is a difference between a Foam GUN and a Foam CANNON. A foam gun is something similar to what you are looking at. They work well with a standard variety garden hose and the cheapest place to get them is from Amazon.com. About $40. A Foam Gun will soak down the car pretty good and rinse away any loose dirt/debris, as long as you do a good after rinse with as strong as a rinse available to you.
Now a Foam Cannon is a totally different beast. You would first pressure wash the car, then soak it with the foam cannon, which requires a pressure washer and a total setup can run over $250 if you factor in the cost for the pressure washer too. The foam it creates is very thick and will cling to the car much longer then what a foam gun will produce, which in turn is able to loosen and soak away (or should I say rinse away) more dirt/debris, leaving less chance to scratch the car when you finally put a mitt to it, hopefully using a 2 bucket wash.

Any recommendations on what kind of soap to use with it? I typically use Meguiar's gold class car wash soap.

I've been using
Surf City Pacific Blue Wash & Wax
with mine. You can use the Meguiars stuff that you have and get the same results though.

I finally put in the order for a foam gun yesterday. Expected delivery is mid-January! There goes trying this baby out before it gets too cold to wash the car. Oh well.
I picked up a gallon of DP Xtreme Foam Formula Auto Shampoo from that dude skizot to use with it.

That sucks man. At this point, it would just be a snow gun anyway. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise?

Sorry to hear that. Gilmour shut down a plant and they haven't shipped an order out for months. I placed an order in October and I still don't honestly know when it will be here. Every time I call them it sounds like it's a couple of more months away and the story changes. The good news is we still have the Foamaster II (
http://www.detailedimage.com/Gilmour-M33/Foamaster-II-Foam-Gun-P210/12-Gallon-Tank-S1/
) in stock, although it's a very limited supply. If you want to guarantee yourself one you can order from us now. Don't wait too long though, we're getting a lot of inquiries from people who are buying from us because most places are out of stock. We also have two package deals I'll list below. I highly recommend the Foamaster II Starter Kit. Let me know if you have any questions.
