Title: Denso TT Spark Plug legit or gimink?
Post by: thisaznboi88 on September 11, 2010, 01:12:50 AM
So my friend was telling me that I should get new plugs and try these new denso. I don't know too much about spark plugs, but I have read around that people using different spark plugs that were not the OEM NGK or denso been having problems. So just wondering if anyone has tried these yet. At 4 bucks a plug they are half the price of the k20 iridium.

Denso (4504) PK20TT Platinum TT Spark Plug

So you're going to put in a lower quality spark plug?  I don't understand why you would downgrade from the iridium plugs that are in your car to platinum.  Honestly, just give me the money if you want to waste your $12.

I think we already have a definite answer.

put on the plug. No CEL and the car feels happier. The old plugs were all whitish.

look like normal/ normal life

So guys if you haven't changed your sparks yet. You might consider doing so. To OEM Laser Iridium. I just wanted to give the TT a shot since it was pretty cheap but will probably need to come out in 30k. Just letting you guys know that it won't blow up your car. lol

What's the general life expectancy of the stock spark plugs?  I'm at 56K miles now and just wondering if they should be replaced.  Book says 105K, I've never had a car that long, period. LoL

You can go that long, but I replaced mine the first time at 60k.  My concern was the fact that it is an aluminum head and didn't want the plug to get seized in the head.

I did mine at about 65k....

I suggest 90k especially if you are running performance parts. What I do with every spark plug job I do is to put a little bit of anti seize on it. That way it is a lot easier down the road to remove and replace.

If I don't have time to do them before I leave for Boston this weekend, I'll do them when I get back.  Anti-seize lubricant huh, that's a good idea.

I also use anti seize.

I'm at about 62k and am going to change the plugs this spring...can't hurt.  I also use anti-seize on my plugs, esp on aluminium heads like Tim said...do the same on my jeep.

Thien, when do coil packs need to be changed, if ever?  100k?

I also used anti siege. Just going to run these plugs until I need a tune up at 100k. Going to replace them with oem one just because I don't feel like changing sparks every 30k. I did this around 65k? i forgot car now has 81k~

You don't need to replace your coil packs unless they stop working.

What Tim said. You won't need to replace a coil unless it dies. You will know when a coil goes bad. One, check engine light will come on. Two, you will have a misfire which will result in rough running and lost of power.

I bought the plugs last night. Talk about pricey. Oh well, I'll change them when I get back from MA.

I think I only paid about $30-$40 the last time I got new plugs.  One tuner I went to said I had to have RSX Type S plugs and wanted to charge me $120 for the set.  Hahahaha.

I recommend majestic.  Just order them online.  Cheaper than the dealer in brooklyn.

Bernardi is also a good place to buy parts.

You can get plugs from a regular store just make sure your getting the same brand and part number as the dealer part. They aren't Honda plugs so it will be cheaper to get them some place else.

Mike, that's what I was thinking exactly.  I figured there wasn't a "honda" plug out there

Nelson, did you change them yet?  if so, let me know how long it took ya...I want to do this asap, I think my gas milage is slipping

Nah, been busy.  Maybe this weekend. On Saturday.  I'll let you know. Shouldn't be more than 1/2 hour, start to finish.

V6 calls for 1 hour to do. You will need a 5mm allen, extension, ratchet, and spark plug socket. I highly recommend using anti seize so that way when you have to do it again, it won't get seized inside the head. Also, i highly recommend torqueing the spark plugs to 15-17 ft. lbs.

I agree 100% an hour is fair Half hour would be rushing it.

Anyone got a DIY for the V6?  I'm a maintenance noob so the more detail the better.

Its really easy...

1. Remove the engine cover
2. Unplug a coil pack
3. Remove the coil pack (1 allen wrench bolt)
4. Use a spark plug socket to loosen and remove the plugs.

Its not hard at all man.
