My parents just barely got by all the tornados, all of them passed within a half mile or so of their house.  They haven't had power since 5:30 last night.. Luckily they're all okay though..  We've had tornado warnings and watches all day today..

Man those storms were brutal.. I've worked thru rough conditions before without taking shelter but the weather was so vsf in these storms I went in a bank and took shelter with them in the vault.

Glad everone from here is okay... Storms like these are the reason I live in the North East... Snow sucks but, its nothing like a tornado, or hurricane.

Hurricanes ain't shit man. They're semi predictable, you can prepare for them and easily sheltered from. Unless of course its the strength of the hand of God, then it doesn't matter what the fuck you do.

We finally got power back. My families furniture manufacturing plant was severely damaged from the tornados. Baseball sized hail and debris tore it up. The plant and warehouse are both aluminum buildings with skylights that were all blown out. My Dad no longer works on site but he called his receptionist and she said they could see the tornado from the office building. Luckily, it didn't go over it or the damage would have been a lot worse and 500 +/- a few employees would have been in danger. My roommates Dad's furniture manufacturing company is a little further south than ours and it was pretty much gutted. A family friend's mom died in the storm too. It's pretty rough down here. Luckily everyone in my family is safe. Both Tupelo and Starkville were missed by about 30 miles so it was close to hitting us directly.

Glad to hear everyone is okay.  Some of that storm rode through Ohio too.  The news station was pretty hardcore about it telling everyone to stay inside and take cover.  I guess there was some damage, but all I saw of it was about 15 minutes of intense rain.  It was a good enough excuse for me to not go out to work until 11:00 though.

That's awful.  I've had to do that before.  Glad to hear you got power back.  It's awful living without power.  A few years ago, New England got raped with a crazy ice storm that left us without power in the middle of winter.  We had to stay with friends because it was so cold.

Well, ya know, there was candles and stuff...

So, where I live, in Soddy Daisy, did not get hit as hard as some of the other places. My grandmothers house had her oak tree fall on it. My best friends house in Lookout Valley also had a tree fall on it. Also, an officer I use to work with had his whole entire house destroyed. I had to work in Apison, which is at the border of GA and TN at Ringgold,GA the place you have all probably nevr heard of until this week on cnn and the weather channel. A lot of the families in Apison have been left with next to nothing. While working in Apison yesterday, I met an extraordinary person who was very moving to me. I was standing in the hot sun basically keeping tourist and non residents out of this street and he rode up to me on his fourwheeler just to give me a cold bottle of water. He started to talk to me for a bit and was telling me how he was left with nothing but his family, his truck, his wifes van, and his four wheeler, and a pile of debris. It made me stop to think what kind of person this must be to have lost everything and still be kind and caring enough to stop what he is doing to come bring ME a bottle of water. Every time this guy left, he would ask if I needed or wanted anything. to which, I generally replied no, because I have 8 bottles of water 3 twix bars and 5 bags of chips left in my patrol car. But no matter what I said, He would always stop at the command post and grab me the coldest drink he could find and a candy bar or something. It is very rare, especially in LE, tat you come across someone so selfless and moving. It breaks my heart to know that I have no way of helping him in return. Yeah, I mean I have been working his street to keep the traffic and thefts down, but that is my job. I really wish there was some way I could help the guy.

Wow. That actually brought a tear to my eye. I'm being absolutely serious. That kind of selflessness is lost these days and as a result, the world is a very cold place. Stories like this remind me that there is still some good in this fucked up world.
