That's a great attitude to have mike. In a sense, I'm fortunate that this happened at work. Because I was injured on duty, the city has to fit the bill for everything. On the downside of that, since I work for the government, they do not participate in workman's comp. Basically, they want the benefits of it, without having to follow its guidelines. What that means for me, is that if I have to miss work due to the injury, I lose 25% of my pay for that day. For instance, if I do have to have surgery, I will be out for a week or two, that's 250-300 dollars I'm losing. It's pretty fucked up. Their reasoning is that they are paying for medical treatment and are paying for your insurance and you're not paying the contributions to your pension while iod. That makes up for roughly 75-85 bucks. So the worker still gets the shaft.

I think that short term disability doesn't cover you for 100%. At my last two jobs it's only 60%.

Short term disability would cover me if I was injured outside of work and could jot work because of it. I am on a desk job until I am healed enough to be released to go back to work. The put me on light duty so I can still work and not lose money. If I miss a day because of the injury, like the day after the injury when I went to the doctor, I was marked as injured on duty which costed me money.
