31  Styling & Maintenance / Exterior Styling & Maintenance / Re: Windshield Wiper Arms - too much movement on: August 06, 2009, 08:17:06 AM
There is indeed a recall but that's only for the wiper motor itself.

Adjustment is a tricky thing...here's what it's like.  Whenever you pull the wiper tranny and related innards out, you first cycle the wipers and watch them stop.  From that point you remove the wiper arms and set them aside.  Then after removing the innards, you mark the position of the arms by the connecting plate with the little triangle on it with a crayon.  After that, you do your business with replacing whatever you need to, then you line up the marks when you go to put the motor back in, tighten everything down, reinstall the wiper arms in the rest positions, and voila...back to where they need to be...if not, then you cycle the motor with the arms off again, and reinstall.

You need the secondary oxygen sensor, Rolo.  The one attached to the catalytic converter.

ehh....60k is just a magic number..it's not a guaranteed failure point, it's just the point that I've come across most often when stuff starts to fail.

I've been thinking a lot lately (that's why you've been smelling something burning whenever you leave the house), and I decided to start a thread for the people who put themselves in harms way to keep us happy, alive, and most importantly, free.

Whenever you see a soldier in uniform, thank him or her for serving.  They will always say "you're welcome" and "that means a lot".  It may just be a couple of words for you, but it speaks volumes to them.  They voluntarily go to nasty places and do horrible things, and sometimes come back physically or mentally incomplete, or not at all...people these days have lost touch with war and its effects.  The Vietnam war was on prime-time TV, highly refuted as the first televised war...nowadays the government controls how much is released to our eyes and ears, so we don't see the full breadth of conflict overseas.  I personally feel that we're far too caught up in our own petty issues to recognize that people are fighting for our freedom every day.

I have several military family members, and I am prudent about acknowledging their service and asking about their experience.  We must remember the past in order to plan for the future.

I watched my grandfather live out his days in a VA hospital...some place I hope none of you ever have to visit.  If, however, you feel like brightening up somebody's day...anybody's day...visit and say thank you.

This is a charity that all can provide into.  These trendy "support our troops" bumper stickers and ribbons are nothing more than CRAP that people buy and stick to their cars because it's trendy...it may raise money for Vets Affairs, but it's very easily forgotten.  It's also highly impersonal...which has become the trademark for today's society.  I encourage you to approach a soldier or vet and thank them for their service.  I've never come across one that greeted me with anything less than a "hello" and a smile.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of our serving members here and those who served while we were still members of G7A.  I'd also like to thank our members here who are LE, FD, EMS, NG, CG, Army, Navy, Marine Corps, or any other agency that protects our country.

For those of you who have never thanked a soldier, start doing it today.
36  K Series Performance / Engine and Drivetrain Performance / Re: Innovative mounts R&D on: July 20, 2009, 04:36:32 PM
Sorry for the lack of updates guys.  The offer still stands with innovative.  They will produce mount sets for us, but they need a set of mounts to R&D.  They do not have to be BNIB but I wanted to get a new set for their purposes.  I get them at discount from work, but that's still a $200 purchase for me, and I don't have the extra money right now because I'm trying to eliminate my credit card debt.  If anybody wants to take up the torch before I get the chance to get a set of mounts, you're more than welcome to.  I understand you guys want these hotcakes too and I'm not going to hold you guys up if somebody else wants to get a set of mounts for Innovative to R&D.  After they get the mounts, they'll send them back to you so you may resell them.  Any interested parties can contact innovative at (714)-524-5246, and request that they be on the lookout for an incoming shipment if you wish to send them a set of mounts.  They'll need the front, rear, and side mounts.  I wanted to purchase a new set for them so that they'd have equal resell value when I got them back and I could sell them as a new set.  I'd like to get this process started but I can't throw away $200 at the moment.

I've only ever used honda OEM filters except for two times when I first got the car, I used two fram oil filters before going back to Honda OEM.

Ken, you are correct but I'd like to emphasize the fact that you are speaking about Kpro in terms of the Accord only.  Our gains with a stock motor are miniscule when compared with a true VTEC K series engine.  Yes, it is quite expensive for the few horses you'd gain with a K24a4, but for the 20+ whp you'd gain above baseline with a stock K20a2, it's different.  Compounded with bolt-ons, those motors can push upwards of 50-60whp over stock, whereas our gains are sharply less.

I speak of Kpro both from the standpoint of the Accord, and the other K series apps out there.  You are correct that people considering Kpro should be 95% sure that their projected output will be over 250whp to justify the cost of the EMS, and it is not really economical to use it on internally stock non-force-fed K24a4's.  I mainly wanted to highlight the stark differences in output between a pre-fabbed turbo kit with bundled EMS vs. a home-brewed turbo kit with a hondata Kpro.

Oh no doubt it would need to be upgraded to the nines in order to be street safe, but all the safety equipment in the world cannot protect those not in the driver's seat.  The really sad thing is that accidents involving these ridiculously powerful cars almost always leave the idiot driver without a scratch, while passengers, pedestrians, and other innocents lose quite a bit more than sleep over the issue.  A 700whp S2K would be a hell of a ride though Smiley

The haltech interceptor has proven to work with 7th gens, but its use only serves to prove my theory that hondata engine management is superior to any other EMS on the market.

A fellow by the name of Jason in Florida had a 7th gen with a turbo kit and he used the Haltech interceptor.  This was either before or around the same time as Mike Sedacca was on Kpro with his swap and a rudimentary tune.

Jason used the Racing technology co. turbo kit and the Haltech EMS, while Mike used a kit he pieced together himself, along with one of Cham's first harnesses and a Hondata Kpro.  Mike and Jason got together for a couple of dyno pulls, and Mike's car beat out Jason's by quite a bit of power, and that was before Mase re-tuned his cam angles to net him more power.  Mike's car at peak produces 303whp at around 9PSI, while Jason's put out somewhere around 240-270 (I do not recall the exact numbers at this time).  Mike was able to achieve higher gains under less boost pressure with a kit that was purchased in pieces..as compared to an individual who purchased a $5000 kit with included EMS.  I'm pretty sure Mike's kit cost less than Jason's.

In short, yes it will work, and it has been proven to work in 7th gens.  Is it better than a Hondata EMS? No.

Most people think that I'm just a hondata fanboy..and that really isn't the case.  I've said this before and I'll say it again...Hondata holds a monopoly in the market since their Kpro EMS is capable of controlling VTC.  If you cannot control VTC, you are not making as much power as you could be making.  I will admit that research has shown VTC to be a hamper on super expensive gonad jarring uber-builds, but at that point, after $10,000 in engine modifications, you enter an entirely new echelon of engine management altogether.

For the non-super expensive gonad jarring uber-builds, proper VTC tuning is critical to achieving the best power output.  My famous quote for this situation is such:

You could have two identical RSX-S's built with the exact same go-fast parts (N/A, FI, N2O, etc) and if they varied ONLY in the respect that one had a Hondata Kpro, while the other used any other commercially available EMS....the Kpro equipped vehicle would run circles around the other car from dawn till dusk, in the snow, on 3 cylinders, in reverse, with no engine oil, in the dark, with the driver wearing a blindfold and playing tic-tac-toe with a passenger in the back seat.

Any EMS can control fuel and ignition maps..but no other EMS can control VTC.

I would also agree with Timmy.  I really don't see too much of a harmful drop in backpressure with having a 2.25" exhaust, and I do not think that it's worth it to go down a quarter inch and shell out the money for a new set of pipes.

43  Lounge / General Automotive & Forum Discussion / Re: What do you guys think is the best honda car to build? on: July 20, 2009, 12:20:30 AM
I'm all for K-sights.  It's the most logical build since the car is stripped down pretty much to a gas tank, skins, and a powerplant from the factory.  All you really need to do is gut the lightweight interior, swap the motor and transmission, and then have fun.  That swap, being so light, should only really be used in a drag setup.  I doubt it would perform well in twisties.

I like Paul's idea with the uber S2K but honestly I would prefer to have a coffin without wheels.

Know thy VTEC crossover point.  Economy VTEC engages at 2200 RPM, not 3000.
45  K Series Performance / Bolt Ons / Re: TSX Intake Manifold DIY on: July 19, 2009, 03:09:21 PM
there is no reason why a manifold swap would increase engine bay heat.  How are you collecting your data and what are your before and after temps?
